Wish we had a "Pick this up, you dumb Pawn.." Command
Sometimes it makes me want to throw a pawn off a cliff when I want one to pick up a treasure - and usually they race to grab stuff before I can get it - but when I WANT them to... they just stand around, jumping all over it like the three blind stoges. I'm waiting, calling them, standing there, moving over and around the treasure but they are in full on MORON MODE and will NOT just PICK IT UP. Then finally I have to pick it up myself, go into the menus and transfer it to one of the stupid packmules. I could use a "Pick it up, you nitwit Pawn" key command.

Ok, weird thing, its generally lower level pawns that wont loot, but just logged into game to test it, as am on a low level new game at the moment, and yeah they loot less than at higher levels but ...

Swing at the thing. Found sometimes they would not mine rocks even though they had pickaxes so smashed it with my sword out of annoyence and they immediatly began to mine, so scince then I see a rock I want them to mine I swing at it, they straight away go for it.

So logged on to test, opened some boxes and smashed some crates in a loot cave, they all stood around like idiots, swung my sword about a bit and , they loot what im swinging at, then go down towards bloodwater beach from the cave and swing at herbs , they pick them, swing at chests, they loot them. So , try that.

I dont know if shooting will have the same effect or not. Would have to test it.

From what i've noticed, the more points a pawn has in their aquisitor inclination value, the more likely they are to loot (in or out of battle). You don't need an aquisitor main or secondary to make them want to loot more often. You just need to have a lot of points into it. An easy way to keep a pawn with moderate aqusitor value is to use 2 aquisitor elixors to set it as primary. Then use 2 more elixors of a idfferent type to push it into secondary, and then some more elixors to push it into third and lower. Just keep in mind that as inclination values rise, others will fall. It's allso possible to use this method to boost justa few inclinatino values and practicly null aquisitor.

Strange mechanic... swing at the item or use inquisitor elixor... wow.

I suppose swinging with your sword is this games equivilent of a point at something emote..

A loot all in area command would have been nice, but I mean the amount of commands you can give them is intentionally minimal. Its meant to be about the inclinations / autonomy more than direct control from the player.

Is that something from Dragon Age?

By the way, a few things I've noticed about pawn looting is that they often only pick up items or open chests you've walked over or highlighted before. I.e., Stuff you've been close enough for the "E" prompt to appear. They also need to come to a complete standstill, even if for a second, before picking/mining/opening/gathering something.

So, try walking over the loot you want them to pick up, ensure they stop completely, then lightly tap your "W" key in quick succession. Don't ask me why this works, but it usually does. Though there are some places where pawns just refuse to loot stuff - most notably certain items in BBI.

Just to confirm Paradoxes post, just tested it. Highlighting the item and repeatedly pressing W, works as well if not better than swinging your sword around. So twitching at the item essentially lets them know to pick it up.. , but then the sword swinging works, but of course while your swinging your sword around your highlighting the object so its the same principle, twitching the W key gets you a higher frames to highlight item ratio I suppose than attack animation.

Edit: running back and forth over the items works as well and doest look as weird.

Edit 2: sometimes running back and forth works better. Meh, all these methods work. Is area/ box situational it seems.

I've noticed there are some mining nodes they will never mine and some static items they will never pick up. One mining node that comes into mind is one of the three mining nodes on BBI before you enter the gate. The first node facing Orla is fine but the second one just a few meters away of first node leading up the path, I have never seen them mine it no matter what I do how long I stand near it.

Have you tried hitting the mining nodes rather than standing next to them? Is a few nodes I stand next to and they just stand there looking dumb, I hit the node and its like they wake up and get to it.

Or, try picking up your pawns and placing them right next to the node. If they don't do their brushing off animation when you put them down, they'll mine whatever node they're next to.
