Feeding a Hydra
How the hell are you supposed to feed a hydra an explosive barrel? I've been trying for hours and can't lure them into one with shrield drum or carful throws before it bites me. I'm so close to the third star on this beast and it's really anoying to figure this thing out.

That's a thing? No wonder I never get that 3rd star for gransys. Does it matter what pond you go into?
A few of these flags are notorious, such as "The Duke could stand to commission some new roads" in front of the Encampment, and the two large tree remarks at the bandit ambush.

I'm not familur with the two larg tree's at a bandit ambush. Which bandit ambush are you refering to? I'm currently retraicing my steps all over the place looking for the last few spots i havn't slowly led my pawn through.

When you're coming south on the road from the gate of the Mountain Waycastle, the road sort of runs straight south for a while. Then it makes a hard descending turn to the east. The tree is the pivot point for that descending turn; bandits lurk there that turn into hellhounds and undead in postgame.

Go up to that tree: "what a large tree." There will be a pause, then "it's even larger up close."

oh, i've gotten that then. I was thinking it might have been on of the trees near Arnest Castle since there are lots of bandits and several large trees.

The easiest way would be to just drag out the mission A Rude Awakening until you receive the cutscene where Mercedes throws you an explosive barrel. Otherwise, you'll have to try and stun a head by doing enough damage to it - doing so will have the head sway with its mouth open for some time giving you the opportunity to chuck a barrel down its gullet.
This.

If you and your pawn are already high level you can get this by just removing all weapons from your pawn while dismissing all others. If that isn't good enough, you can use elixits to force your pawn to have non-useful inclinations (guardian, nexus, aquisitor, mendicant) to make them less likely to try climbing and punching the hydra to death.

I ended up just removing my pawns weapons, dismissing the help, and waiting it out from a distance. Turns out i didn't have enough kills, but at least now I think my pawn has the flag (should just need a few more kills). If worst comes to worst, i'll just make sure I've got the kill count before returning to NG+ again. Then do the waiting game again.

The Hydra in the Frontier Caverns in the post game respawns every seven game days, so there is that. Stagger it, toss a powder barrel at its mouth during its stagger animation and then shoot the lump in the throat was always the method I was told used by the people who filled that knowledge star for their rented pawns.

Confession time! I don't like fighting the Archydra all that much, so in my own game my party's knowledge page still says "Unknown enemy" on one line even though my pawn's Bestiary knowledge is 100% complete.

HAHA!!! Unknown enemy for the win. XD

I keep killing the frontier cavern hydra and cuting it's heads off too easily. It just never staggers before I do enough damage to remove a head. I just plan to kill a bunch then get that Encampment easy flag (which I have now anyway).
