Is a small arisen a bad thing?
My character is nearly as small as you can get. I chose the shortest height, and nearly the skinniest body. Does this mean that I'm slower and weaker than if I had gone with a bigger character, and that I'm at a genuine disadvantage here? I like the aesthetic of being a small mage with a beefcake fighter beside me, but would it be advisable to change my size (if that can be done when editing character)?

You lose plenty of carry capacity and are less resistant to knockback and stagger attempts. Apparently, lighter Arisen have increased stamina consumption and quicker regeneration, though this is nowhere near as severe or noticeable as the Hard Mode penalty. But apart from that, a light Arisen tends to move quicker than its heavier counterparts and can even venture into the Goblin holes in the Shadow Fort.

Smaller hitbox supposedly.

That's.... not amazing. Will that affect anything other than arrows? Which, as it stands, aren't that scary.

Actually, not that much. However, a shorter arm length, which one should choose in proportion to the rest of the body, does mean a slightly shorter weapon reach in hand-to-hand. But it's trivial.

That said, the most common error in the character editor is a head that is too small in proportion to the rest of the body. Generally, torso length from collarbone notch to zatch should be 2 1/2 times the measurement from the top of the head to the chin. There... are a lot of pinhead pawns out there.

Any downsides are easily offset by your cute imouto arisen.

For bonus points choose the absolute deepest voice set.

I considered going for a good bass voice, but it felt kind of wrong giving him one.

I was just thinking, can a tall character run underneath a drake? My arisen was quite easily walking around under it, stabbing the heart, out of range of most of its attacks.

No effect on stagger/knockdown. Those are myths.
No effect on climbing on large enemies. Certain flying enemies will be weighed down less if you grab on to them though.
Much easier to get drenched while in shallow water.
Smaller starting stamina pool, but better regeneration. (Unimportant. Doesn't affect stamina gains per level.)
Very low carry weight. Carrying enemies results in higher stamina usage.
Smaller hitbox, but shorter reach.
Slower walk/jog speed. Think shorter legs. (Run speed unaffected.)
Zero effect on grappling for both stamina usage and duration, surprisingly.

Here's some stuff to keep in mind when making character size changed (source: official strategy guide).

Character Weight------Weight Class
Under 50kg--------------SS
50-69kg-------------------S
70-89kg-------------------M
90-109kg-----------------L
110kg+--------------------XL

Weight Class----Stamina Regen----Stamina Consumption----Move Speed----Max Encumbrance
SS and S--------------1.8x--------------------------0.5x-----------------------1.15x------------------40kg
M-------------------------1.0x--------------------------1.0x-----------------------1.0x--------------------65kg
L and XL---------------0.6x--------------------------2.0x-----------------------0.8x--------------------100kg

According to that spreadsheet, and the Wiki, if you are a small character, you don't move out of the light load category into average load category until you are carrying more than 30kg. But if you are a medium character, you move from light to average encumbrance at 25kg.

The medium character has a higher overall carry capacity, but since I always try to stay as light as possible for speed, it would seem a small character has the advantage over medium in keeping the encumbrance in the light category.

From the wiki:

"Note: The official strategy guide incorrectly lists Average, under S, with 20 kg; but in reality it is 30."

You can verify this by checking the game's files and it is indeed correct.

I'm not sure that sentence applies to what I'm saying.

Edit: Actually it does apply to what I'm saying. It verifies what I'm saying. Small does have an advantage over medium characters if you are trying to keep the load below the "average" threshold.
