How to mine ores?
I'm at the beginning of the game and I've bought a pickaxe and I think I've found some ores to be mined outside the first village, but I dunno how to do it. If you could avoid any spoilers that'd be great

Try a pickaxe.
Like have a pick, in inventory, then walk up to rock and wate for a 'use' prompt.

Or give it to your pawn and stand around near the rock with your thumb up.... playing gameboy and wait for the pawn to do it for you.
:P

I'll quote myself from the similar thread I linked above:

aside from using the pick ax, you can also min ore if you're a warrior. As a warrior (and I think mystic knight was a mace) you activate the ;ore deposit and the character will strike the wall with the bottom of their weapons hilt, causing a lump of ore to fall to the ground and roll around. you then pick that up and you've just mined an ore deposit without a pickax.

Yet, another method is to use high impact spells (like the one that calls down meteors). High impact spells that connect with an ore deposit will remove ALL minable ores from that deposit and they will be rolling around on the ground for you to pick up (note: on occasion mining in the maner will sometime yield less ore than if you used a pickax).

As far as I'm aware, MK cannot mine ores without a pickaxe, unless something like stone grove can be used for it.
But warriors and sorcerors both have the ability to go without a pick, for sure.

I chose the archer/rogue class and I do have a pickaxe in my inventory, but there is no prompt. Does that mean I cannot mine ores because of my class? I also tried to give it to Rook but he doesn't do anything, even he stands on it

Okay, are you at an actual mining spot? Have any of your pawns made comments about ores or anything while standing there?

eh, I saw some other threads and the stones I've found are probably just throwable rocks :D

1. Snatch a broom from Cassardis - Your House fi.

2. Get to the point of a road to the Encampment where lies a broken cart and some pots. By the rocks nearby, on the beach side, there's a haystack with a spade (and few goblins if they've respawned).

3. Combine the two.

Anyone who can equip a staff or archistave and use Comestion can mine without a pickaxe. This means MK, MA and Mage in addition to Sorcerer.

Pawns won't do it unless they have a pickaxe in hand.

You can also mine by throwing an explosive barrel, Dragon's Spit or Throwblast at the mining spot-- regardless of equipped vocation.

Only specific rock nodes can be mined, it's not just any rock. The specific nodes do stand out though, they're not hard to spot. All you do is have a pickaxe in your inventory, walk up to it, and push E (keyboard) or A (controller).

I wasn't aware comestion could mine. Throwblasts/explosive barrel I was aware of, I just assumed we were talking about non-item based stuffs.

Guys, why are you necroposting a three years old thread? I've got more than 1000 hours into this game now, I know how to mine ores, thanks

Because it was at the top of the comments and I didn't look at the date it was originally posted.

It will still be helpful to new players though
