Just to be sure, you're talking to Fournival (the fat merchant) and he's not offering to sell the land to you?

correct. "What of the eviction notice?.....Do you have any rareties to sell?" (buy) (sell) (nevermind)

nevermind because i did the come to cort quest it is impossible to get the idol for another quest...which was the whole point of this odd ill explained chain of quests with no map markers.... frustrating.

If you didn't talk to the father, then you didn't talk to everyone.
Fournival will offer you to buy it after you've talked to all of them, including
the father. This quest do have map markers..for most of the quest, although not
very good ones.

The father tend to hang out right behind the inn (on the road leading to black cat) some
parts of the day. If I remember it correctly, he is the guy ranting about "have you seen
the dragon" or whatever it was.

No it's not, you can do the idol quest at any time as long as Fournival isn't in prison. I'm not exactly sure what starts it, though. You may have to sleep for a day after beating Land of Opportunity or something like that.

There should be map markers for the father, the son, and the mother.

My experience--
I believe you only had to speak to them all "once" for the offer to come up. The first time, you talk to the father, you will be told that he won't make a decision until both his wife and son agree. For the son, you will be set on a game of hide and seek on your "first" talk with him- in order for this "first time talk" to finish, you will need to basically go into the chasing sequence with him and nab him. For the mother, at this point, she would ask you to wait... this I believe is the time you can get the offer- A day or half a day later, I think she will make up her mind to say yes and I'm not sure if the offer would stay at that point.

Good luck.

The error i made was that i convinced everyone before talking to the father the first time so when i did it automatically progressed the conversation making it impossible to buy but that is ok.

Now that i know i can fix it for the second play through

I did the same, no problem. Started with the son, then the mother, and finally the father.
The waiting period was too long so I gave in to the offer (of buying it myself) after
sleeping on it. But yes, there's ng+..

I started a thread about this months ago. No one was able to provide any concreat answers so I solved the mystery for myself. The quest is indeed bugged. To save time, i'm just going to copy and past my findings from the tests.

***I've just run a pretty thorough test in my game and it seems all you need to make sure you do, is speak to Jasper before any of the other family members. Once you've spoken to him (first), and his wife and kid (in any order after Jasper), you are able to purchase the land. Note that you only need to speak with these 3 family members, but completing their tasks (catch the kid, wait a day for the wife, return to jasper after pleasing the wife and kid) are not needed; simply talking to each of them once is enough to make Fornaval sell you the land. Furthermore, so long as you spoke to jasper first and triggered the option to buy the land from Fornaval (by actually speaking to him as if you where buying the land) you can actively take the quest all the way to the point where you can pay for Jasper's moving expenses, refuse to pay this, and still return to Fornaval and buy the land. The only thing I have not tested in this quest is if you actually need to speak to Fornaval early (as if buying the land) in order to still buy it from him after refusing to pay Jasper's moving expenses.
