What?

He's a Dragon. Why would a Dragon care what sex/gender the Beloved is? All you puny, scaleless humans look alike.

On a more serious note: the game picks the person who likes you best. Evidently that was Valmiro, TC. Next time don't do his quests, don't talk to him and for the Maker's sake, don't do any escort quests unless you want that person to REALLY LIKE YOU. Even talking to an NPC raises their affinity for the Arisen a little; they gradually forget as long as you don't interact with them.

Barroch sells Liquid Effluvium once you've done a certain quest in Bitterblack Isle, which is guaranteed to piss people off if given to them. Works as intended; if you give two of them to someone, they'll run from you in fear/anger when you approach, for a while. That, too, gradually fades.

im still surprised because all ive done was his quest but on the other hand i talked and gave selene many presents so that she was in a romance with me.
Funny thing is at the very end when i landed at the beach of cassardis selene came to me and said "are we the same?" is she everytime in this cutscene or is this also realationship related?
Karathrax Sep 16, 2016 @ 1:05pm
Doing one of the NPC's individual quest lines does exactly that, raises their affinity for you.

At any rate, as to Selene's presence on the beach, yes, that's also relationship related. Selene liked you more than Valmiro did by the time you faced your last enemy. It's also variable depending on who you interact with in the postgame.

Me, I would have thrown Valmiro off the dock... haha!

Flushed cheeks and the pink glow around a char during dialogue should always be a good indication for unwanted "beloved" in the making.
Menacingly unsheathing your weapon besides them (over and over again) takes good care of that.

Otherwise i would have ended up with Caxton again.

Look, i like my "fashion dogma" blacksmith and upgraded even the most mundane stuff to get twenty bazillion color schemes of my pants for all coming occasions, but not THAT much...

There's also the part where you can still have multiple chosen beloveds. The one the dragon takes is the last one you've spoken with before finishing "Denying Salvation" at the great wall. It's generally easy to ensure your beloved if you're aware of this mechanic and just go talk to them once (and no one else) before doing that mission.

Did you do his follow-up quest called "farewell valmiro" where you give him herbs, meat, lantern, pilgram's charm, and maybe some other stuff? Even items given as part of a quest will greatily increase the recipiant's affinity for you but completion of farewell valmiro will see him removed from the game (as will Search Party for Rynard and Duchess in Distress for Aelinore).

That quest i think is locked out if you don't find it or finish it before a certain point in the story. The "Farewell Valmiro opens up after you've finished the first set of the duke's requests given by Aldus (his attendent). It eventually locks out after the second set of duke quests are completed (thus begining the final leg of the story). Before you can get Farewell Valmiro you must have also done the quest you did where you chase him down 3 times and give him some herbs. Without doing that, you won't have the other one appear (all character related quests are like this).

Valmiro almost became my female Arisen's beloved, but I kept tossing him at seagulls and boxes every time he sent me on a fetch quest. I did all of his quests, but ended up with that blonde shopkeeper.
