Edit: Even a plastic one.
They become horrifying if you grab them, though. And even worse with a certain mod that can make them like 100x their usual size...but they still only take one hit to kill.
They make wonderful chitinous creepy crawly sounds and thanks to the pop in might suddenly just appear right next to you and give you a good fright! Rah!
I hope Dragons Dogma 2 has full sized spiders to fight
'tis a troubling foe!
that's not to say they might not trigger your arachnophobia, but it's worth looking to see if you can bare these, or looking at the mod that someone suggested above that removes them, again though, careful as there is a picture of the in game creature on the mod page.
best of luck, and i hope either way you can experience this game, it's really very different from anything else and very fun indeed
Op gets that, i'm sure, i'm arachnophobic too, and i fully get that most of them are zero threat to me and could easily be crushed swiftly under boot, but that's what phobias are, hard wired irrational fears.
we know its silly, but that doesn't stop the irrational terror gripping us.
i've literally faced down a person with a Knife Irl before calmly and decisively, but i've also been frozen in my bedroom door way in terror when i've spotted a spider on the wall across the room, unable to go kill it, take a step into the room, or even run away.
Down came the rain and washed the spider out!
But then along came sun and dried up the rain!
Now the incy wincy spider climbs up the spout again!
Yeah ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ SATISFACTORY, those ones were bad for me. I did not like the spiders in Skyrim, but it was more boredom than anything else that caused me to stop playing that game. Yeah, it kind of drives me nuts in fantasy games how common giant spiders are. I get that they are a staple of the genre, but I just wish developers would give some sort of toggle switch which would turn them off or replace them. I know that is a lot to ask, but arachnophobia is seriously so common and I see this topic talked about a lot in various games. Glad there are modders who are sensitive to this in SOME games though. If modders can do it, the developers should easily be able to do this as well.
Maybe, the wrong post to share that picture? But you probably knew that already.
But in answer to your question, there are indeed spiders in this game. They have terrible pop in and are far more prominent in the DLC than in the base game - there's literally rooms in the DLC that you walk into, small side rooms that are all cramped and your camera will be forced to zoom in nice and close, and then BAM suddenly like 10 spiders the size of a human torso will pop into existence before your eyes, all over the tables, and chairs, and floors, and start spitting poison at you.
The DLC also features hallways that you have to move through in order to unlock shortcuts and possibly even progress through the DLC dungeon itself that will have groups of spiders hanging around in your path or along the edges of it - like a staircase going up that is covered in them. For sure though they don't attack you in any way other than spitting jets of poison at you and making evil noises, because they're evil spiders.
They die in like one hit no matter what level or difficulty you are on, and in the DLC at least their corpses immediately melt into goo (can't remember if this happens in the base game) - they're not as big as in the picture up above - usually they're small enough that they'd go unnoticed if they weren't spitting poison at you constantly or for the pop in that causes them to just appear once you get close to them anyway.
You can pick them up in your hands by grabbing them, and it's pretty horrifying even to think about even for me, since you grab them by their back and hold their underside facing towards you, they go limp for a second or two and then begin wriggling and shaking their creepy crawly legs until they break free of your grasp...it's nasty! Real nasty! Gives me the creeps.
But they're really fun to pick up and throw into the water, for what it's worth!
You may be able to find or request a mod that removes them or turns them into bunnies or snakes, depending on how easy it is to mod this game like that. Those are more or less decoration animals just like spiders, so it wouldn't change the game at all if you did that really, other than losing easy access to the Spider Venom material...which is probably more or less useless anyway really.
This game isn't Grounded, with big evil spiders lurking in dark places though. They're just pests.
