this game is VERY open world, only one on-rails segment early on in the form of an annoying escort quest but it's otherwise open for the rest of the game

Apart from start and end it's even TOO open world. I mean, some ppl compl...no, they basically whine about "the creature being too strong". And I'd ask them:
"WTF? THIS IS OPEN WORLD... dammit! What did you expect?"
So yeah, don't expect "balance", other than "grow up a little and come back". You've been warned, my work here is done ;)

BTW Not that it's all about levelling and all, you know, like Diablo or Borderlands. It is a full fledged slasher and you can do stuff with skill and tactics.
This is an open world game, not as big as you can think though. Its like 1/3 the size of Skyrim, maybe a bit smaller.

And there is no difference between plataforms, xbox, ps3 or pc they are all the same. There is one armor that is not on pc due licensing issues, but is not a big deal. You can play just fine without it.

@OP maybe a 1/10 the size of skyrim really.

it's smaller than it seems, the more you play the more you see it for its size.

skyrim was smaller than oblivion, morrowind seemed the largest of the TES series based on travelling sheer landmass.

despite all of that it has some interesting features, is a good game despite its small size as an openworld game.

Ironically Oblivion seemed smaller to me than Skyrim or Morrowind. Obviously, landscaping matters

To the Topic: World of DDDA is not that big, but for the lack of horse it seems bigger than it is. Other thing is that World of DDDA is not for exploring. You go to certain Locations only when you are supposed to (while you progress in questline)

Of course it's for exploring as well! There are areas and quests you can miss entirely if you don't explore.

there's also a lot of quests that are lost forever if you don't do them at certain points in the game progress, which is lost completely if you just follow the story-line from path to path, which encourages to put the story-line on hold for awhile and just go and experiment.

Also the only place you can't enter without at least a little story progress is Gran Soren (though going through the backside of the mine to skip the locked-pass is risky as Ogres are quite dangerous and will probably wreck a newbie)
