However, they share a spawn timer with some other beasties. So if there is a cyclops wandering along the road south of the Knoll or a Chimera in the forest to the west, then your griffin won't show up. Complicated, right??
I wrote a a help/tip thread on this here that might help.
Lots of people struggle with griffins but you can overcome it. Are you luring them with corpses? You can also use shield summons. The best thing I've found is to make sure I have a port stone next to their spawn point. Save when you port in and reload until you get their attention and your kill.
So I moved onto other quests and eventually I was leaving Gran Soren to head to the Catacombs and a Griffin showed up.. at night while I was fighting undead and bandits.
