There are exclusive rewards dropped by the ur dragon, and how much damage + the number of times you fight it before its killed and a new generation comes around will determine what kind of rewards you may get.
theres a 3rd party site that can somewhat tell you what the hp level of the couple of ur dragons are at (theres 4 i believe that players can get sent)
When an ur dragon is killed theres a relatively short grace period where it will spawn in at 1hp for you to tap it and get the kill rewards
Check wiki to avoid misinformation, as offline version Ur-dragon is one of the end game bosses with one of the best loot to get from it, You can kill it just like any other enemy
- the offline one can be dealt with in a single go, but it has a reduced loot pool.
- the online one must be killed heart by heart. If you do more than the damage limit, your participation isnt accounted for the kill (the reward you get when he die is based on the amount of damage you dealt).
But now there's a simple method to handle the online Ur pretty quickly (count about one hour or so): purchase a maker's finger with fournival, enter chamber of lament as a yellow vocation and shot that maker's finger at one of Ur remaining heart (one MF is enough to destroy one heart), leave chamber of lament. rince and repeat.
That way you can tbeat the damage limit while destroying one heart for sure every single time.
It's so efficient that you can create a grace period by yourself doing this (and get the maximum reward available with 100% participation to the kill).
Did it a couple time myself long ago and it was enough to get the entire Ur arsenal (weapons, armor, masks).
There's also a way to speed this up by simply having Fournival as your soulmate in new game+ post dragon. That way he will be hanging at cassardis inn and since in new game + there's a portal to chamber of lament on cassardis beach....
I though MF was only available once per game? Or does it respawn in Fournival's inventory 7 days after using? I also had no idea about the portal, thanks, that should speed thing up pretty nicely.
But killing Ur dragon as any vocation? I'm not sure. How would a fighter or warrior deal with the hearts on his wings?
Never tryed to fight Ur as a warrior nor fighter.... and when I bring pawns along, I bring acquisitors... so they gather the loot since Ur fall apart all along the fight....
Cant even think of a way for those 2 vocations to reach the hearts on the tip of his wings, you cant climb those parts....
If you're not proficient with Magic Attack or you simply don't like those two vocations, then you'll probably want to load up on Liquid Vim (forge a bunch at The Black Cat) and other stamina curatives, since you'll want to attack his hearts, which often require mantling to reach, especially if you want to kill him in one go. Consider also sourcing some Gloves of Might and using the Arm-Strength, Adhesion and Opportunism augments too, if you can.
Bringing a Mage Pawn with Holy Boon / Affinity / Pact can be helpful, if you lack the ability to enchant your own weapon / have a weapon with innate Holy damage on it.
Perfectly killable offline, and easy to farm by sleeping in Cassardis Inn for a specific amount of time that I can't remember and then running back to the Riftstone. This was how people used to farm high levels in vanilla before Bitterblack Isle came along - you had to be offline for it.
The online part is only required for the Abyssinal Set, which while nice (and necessary if you want "true" 100% completion) is pretty much made redundant with Bitterblack equipment anyway. You can still grind him for all the other usual drops - the Holy weapons, the Wakestones, and piles of rotten ambrosial meat and other assorted drops.
- It has all the Ur weapons available (for collectors out there), only the daggers matter though and they are obtainable on the offline Ur.
- It has 4 different masks (offline one doesnt drop them at all, or at an abysmal rate because I never got any from it...).
- online systematically drops armor parts, and it drops all of them, the offline one I'm not so sure it drops everything or, same as for the masks, at an abysmal rate.
- Not sure but I had the impression that online Ur is more generous for materials drop when one of his heart breaks.
Also you dont need to bring specific stamina curatives at Ur.... destroy his belly first and you'll get plenty of ambrosial meat to fill your needs, if you got any...
You can switch vocation whenever and for free once you unlocked them all... if you plan on climbing an ennemy, there's just no point in doing it as any vocation but strider... that will save you some augment/gear slots for usefull stuff instead of gimmick that wont even compensate for the gap between strider and any other vocation when it comes to climbing....
And for pawn choice, on the offline Ur you definitely want acquisitors... or you'll miss most of his loot.
If you just want to wreck him big time as fast as possible, switch to magic archer and bring a party of 3 sorcerers pawns, all with bolide for synch cast, and none with holy affinity (sorcerers arent support...), you dont want one of your pawn waste his cast time using holy affinity when it should be synching his bolides with the rest of the party....
After entering the chamber of lament, kill the corrupt pawns, move to the center of the area to make Ur spawn, and while it flies toward your party, stack 4 magic rebalancer on your 3 sorcerers... then get Ur attention and bait him away from your sorcerers so they can do their job more easily.
Around 2-3 meteor swarm should be enough to obliterate.
I used to do it with only my main pawn, both as sorcerers with high bolide, she had a pure ranger build (max stamina) and I had a pure STR build (956 str)... usually Ur didnt last more than a minute of the non-stop bolide shower.
Bolide is the only nuke that can realiably hit all of Ur's hearts (way more than seism would).
P.S.: oh, and if your goal is to get the abyssinal shirt, Ur doesnt drop it at all. You get it from beating the game on hardmode (one per playtrough).
