Dinput8.dll and .ini - how to activate and use it in-game?
Hey all,

I dropped the two files into the DDDA folder and there's no problem running the game; however, I have no idea how to bring up the menu and use the mod. Thanks.

F12, but that will take a screenshot, so I like to hold Ctrl and then hit F12.

You might want to deactivate the steam overlay for DDDA, too.

Anyway, get yourself Notepad++ and use it to open the ini file, all the instructions are in there.

Got it. Yeah, I disabled screen shot in Steam, so that's no issue. And wading through the description of the mod on Nexus and going though the .ini, I think I got it. Thanks much!

By the way, what is it about Notepad ++ that's recommended so much over regular Notepad? I mean, Notepad will do everything you need for these .ini files, right (I'm assuming)? Thanks again.

At a casual glance, Notepad++ is just nicer to look at, compared to a plain old notepad document. It just has better formatting, and recognises strings / lines / whatever you call code and whatnot, whereas regular notepad doesn't.

Once you use Notepad++ you can't really ever go back, at least when it comes to scanning big .ini files and the like, as well as editing them. It really is a lot nicer.

It can also help highlight mistakes, and other things. It'll have more features too, like searching for the exact line number. I vaguely recall being able to Notepad++ once to order a whole bunch of lines using a plugin I grabbed, which would have taken an excruciatingly long amount of time doing it manually, but I can't remember exactly what it was I was editing in that case. Some video game .ini file of some sort though, for sure.

Regular old Notepad will be fine sure enough, though. It's just harder on the eyes, in my opinion.

Just as an example, using the dinput8.ini:

Basic Notepad:

Notepad++:
https://gyazo.com/43afec5c15b04fe524935cd37c36fcbf

Ultimately though unless you're actually writing lines of code or whatever, it's probably just down to opinion and preference, Notepad is fine for editing .ini files etc.

If you ♥♥♥♥ up the settings, N++ supports multiple reversion.

I've had a lot of files that were completely garbled in Notepad but fine in Notepad++, so I just started using it for everything. It also has a lot more options for highlighting, finding and replacing text. Not that useful here since the ini is pretty small, but if you're using for longer text files, it's a godsend.

Hello, I'm new to modding and hope to seek some help from someone. I installed this mod and was able to bring up the menu by hitting f12 but when I try to make changes within the menu, nothing happens. Specifically, I'm trying to add augments. Nothing seems to work.

++ is both format and encoding agnostic, regular notepad should never be used for formatting because you have no idea what the game is going to do to or with said ini file.

Necroing sorry but can't for the life of me get this to work on the deck and the amount of time I've spent troubleshooting this ♥♥♥♥ could've been spent power leveling to 200 at this point. The .dll and .ini are in the game folder, I've added the dinput8 override with proton tricks, used the WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %COMMAND% in launch options, and tried opening the menu with f12. Nothing works and I don't have the experience or patience to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ figure this out. So if anyone knows how to resolve this, myself and anyone who stumbles across this thread in the future would be grateful

Where do I find the dinput8.ini file? Or do I need to download it?

Hello i am having trouble getting it to work. I see the mod clock and its working until i enter the menu via ESC, but then stops counting and no matter whether I click F12 or hold down CTRL and press F12 it doesn't respond at all.

thanks.
