So uh... getting one-shotted by Cursed Dragon
I'm a level 67 Mystic Knight currently playing on Hard Mode (after finishing main story and doing a little bit of Everfall on normal). I want to try dragonforging before finishing main story on Hard Mode, so I went to BBI and get some bait to lure the cursed dragon on Duskmoon Tower

While I can somewhat tank the breath attack, the moment it slammed me (or any kind of physical attack) I got killed instantly. Is this normal? :|

I got 2100ish hp and 499 Defense, while my pawns with similar defense stat can take a hit just fine

On hardmode damages from a CD bite is around 3.5K damages. If you dont have around that score in health, dont let it touch you, and dont get in a posiiton that triggers this attack (mid to long range in front).

His easiest attacks to block are his side clawing, bait him into using them by standing on his sides.
Also as all dragons his grab attack is very slow and has a long recovery animation when it miss.
Bait him into using it, dodge it, then use that opportunities to retaliate (or use a cast).
For the poison bomb attack, best options are either to get into cover or climb on his left shoulder, then wait here untill his attack ends.

Ripostes that work best with CD are fire (allow you to counter a CD's take offs wind and knock it off the sky immediately) or holy (combine it with GC for tremendous damages, just make sure that your GCs are always between you and the CD so the bolt from the holy counter will trigger the GCs around).

Torporing ennemies (aka using abyssal riposte) as a MK is counter productive: your main/best means of attack are your shield counters, so the more often an ennemy attack, the more often you can score counters against it, and so the fastest you will knock it down and kill it.
Also, torpor tend to mess up your timing for perfect blocks....

Best pawn for a MK is probably a grapnel user mage pawn. Everytime your pawn grapnels the ennemy, this create a time window for you to use a cast.

Aaand?
Gettin 1shot is perfectly normal on HM.
Don't get hit I guess. You have this...um, what's its name...
starts with the S ;)

If this helps, your damage received is merely double at the isle, Pawns receive Normal Mode damage.

Ah, I see your problem. To much pinching too little slamming.

If you use GC you may as well perch yourself somewhere safe.
If you stand against it you have to hit it hard. Antler, Perilous Sigil, Stone Grove when it's safe - Abyssal Riposte to slow it down will help.
It's just like Normal mode just everything takes longer.

Shield. I meant shield.
Sanctuary won't help you if enemy bites with Dark magick.
Not even mentioning that being 1shot means you skip Sanctuary's Health threshold.

Either this or befriend Rusted Magick Shield/Abyssal anguish combo and be more dodgy.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

sanctuary + bb armor and never die again unless the attack is UNDER the damage cap and you get hit many times.
