A shield-wielder is expected to use a perfect block or a block instead of a dodge roll, and a perfect block (which expends no stamina and you don't take damage) requires the Core Skill Deflect, for a Fighter, and Reflect for a Mystic Knight.

There is also a core skill called Controlled Fall that mitigates getting hit. Press the JUMP key/button before you hit the ground.

I'm guessing you're wondering about a "dodge roll".

Dodging with most classes is simply avoiding an attack with proper positioning.

With the Strider, Ranger, Mystic Archer, and Assassin class there is a core augment for daggers that enables the ability to dodge roll to avoid taking damage.

And yes, shields are made for blocking bro. The fighter is all about fighting with a shield. If you want to face tank you can play as a Warrior.

Perfect block is awesome in this game! You can perfect block almost anything, including some magic.

As others said, dodge roll is reserved for dagger classes, and even then, only if you have daggers equipped (i.e assassins can chose not to use daggers and use swords instead.)

Also, warriors have other methods for evading damage, as there are some skills that grant i-frames when used.

Trying to get it to work with a magic shield and the counter spells, loving Mystic Knight so far and having a lot of fun with it :) But it takes a lot of practice to get the perfect block right. Once I get some more levels will have to get the fighter augment to increase the window of opportunity for a perfect block.

As for the dodge roll I do say it does fit with the theme of the game, if you have a shield rolling around on the ground is not something you want to try and do, it's viable IRL in heavy armour(most medieval armour was lighter than people tend to think) but you both look dumb and actually expose yourself to attacks.

No. There's a dodge skill. Only yellow vocation can learn and use it.

Side note, some skills on certain classes grant iframes. Such as compass / full moon slash if you’re using a sword or a mace and exodus slash for two handed users (warriors). Dagger users don’t need these as they have access to the dodge roll core skill. And with mage/sorcerer there’s no way to dodge aside from i guess running and jumping in a given direction. On top of this shield / magic shield users can perfect block / block, also some classes (mainly assassin) have access to counter attack skills / parry skills.

You really should aim to iframe a move with full moon slash as a fighter or just perfect block it. Pbs don’t consume stamina and also Pbing is harder but more rewarding since you’ll cause the enemy to stagger allowing you to attack. Try not to just sit there and block, it’s risky because you can lose a lot of stamina very quickly. As a fighter, you kinda need the stamina to spam dragon’s maw (a really powerful moveyou get later that takes a lot of stamina it also has iframes) If you’re having trouble pbing I recommend the prescience augment. It gives you a few more frames to pb in. I think it’s an augment that belongs to the fighter vocation too, but augments are like passives and they carry over between classes once you purchase them.
