So what exactly is people's problem with the anime?
And I'm looking for answers that go beyond, "It sucks."

EDIT: From what I can gather there are two camps for people who don't like it. Either its because it wasn't 1:1 with the game which was impossible to begin with, or because it is being judged entirely on what it could have been instead of partially what it is and partially what it should have been. And that's usually stricken down as absolute hate.

It ignores the lore of the game, the characters are pure stereotypes, it has questionable morale (slavery is better than drugs), the monster models look lifted straight out of the game and don't look right with the cell shaded humans.
It's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful. Context is awful, color grading is awful, the animation is awful, the "story" is awful, there are no stakes, there are no actual characters other than the Ducal troops whom have the sole purpose of being a literal plot device, the pacing is all kinds of off, the protagonists literally have plot armor and plot power level with zero justification or context applied to them and nothing is given more than one sentence of cursory lip service in theme or plot advancement.

I've seen cliff notes pictures with more relevance to outcomes than the entire run of this junk heap.

My female friend DDDA player quit watching that anime and stop playing DDDA now.
That is the main Problem for me.

Do you know why?
I heard the reason from her.
Boring, tries to hard to be "mature" (simply having mature themes is not enough. The themes must be executed well). I didn't feel for Ethan. Deviates from the established lore (though some times this is not an issue, the goblins had no right to be changed to THAT for the sake of having a "mature" theme). Also christ, the dragon cgi. How does Grigori from a game this old look better? It's like they didn't really want to try.

I'm only done 4 episodes but I don't see anything that implies it ignores the lore. There's a dragon, there's an Arisen. They fight the same monsters. Seems right to me.
Yeah, finish the series, then.

To be honest, with the nature of the game's lore, there really only needs to be a dragon, and arisen, pawns, and the seneschal. Everything else is just a set piece.

Exactly, folks don't seem to realize this is taking place in an alternate reality. otherwise i would have to be upset, because one of my characters was a lady, and they didn't cover that at all...

How dare the main character be a Man, when my main character was a Whoaman!

But seriously, it was good, it was about as good as any superman movie, being told by a new artist, there will be naysayers, but overall its just a story, and changes were made, though they are minor.

It wasn’t all bad, I disliked that they completely ignored the game’s lore at the end. It’s hard to call something star wars when there’s lightsabers in your show but the story is completely different and has nothing to do with any of the movies. The same goes for dragon’s dogma. There’s a pawn yeah, the dragon takes ethan’s heart yeah but really beyond any of that it’s its own story and not a great one. Then again I guess neither is dragon’s dogma the game but it’s definitely more compelling than what’s in the show.

I thought I would hate the nudity in this, but it actually made a lot of sense for the portayal of humanity they were trying to show. They were trying to show that humanity is garbage and easily corrupted and I thought it was successful in showing that. It’s just the whole “hurr durr you killed the dragon with pride now you’re the dragon” thing was dumb more than “clever”. They didn’t spend enough time building the world and so at the end they just had to make up a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ending.

As I said though, it’s “ok” just kinda lazy and underwhelming. And the 3d didn’t help.

It was mediocre to almost average most of the time. The final episode did redeem it somewhat though.

The dialogue was pretty clunky, and the weird CGI/animation looked a bit strange to my eyes, and some of the animations of secondary characters were wonky.

Story wise, the Arisen was carried through combat with the pawn being 75% responsible for all victories. It's like a newbie having a level 200 buddy and going through the game with his friend's pawn doing all hard work.

it was total trash. the morals that bleed in were completely insane, the grimdark tone was boring, the characters were awful, the sin nonsense was totally out of place in the DD ip, and it totally breaks from what lore is in the game
Awful, I don't like anime in the first place so that is the 1st issue. but geez artists should have a basic understanding of what human muscles look like....the Arisen in the show looks like garbage. Plus the dialog is terrible.

A edgy teenager could have written a more complex and compelling story. They completely deviated away from this game’s story instead of expanding upon it, which is an utter shame.

[Just kind of me ranting why I don't like it in the nicest way possible]
[SPOILERS]

I didn't like it because of how they did the ending. I know the show doesn't have to be 1:1 with the game, but the fact they threw the Seneschal out entirely really ruined it for me. It felt like there was little to no character development. Ethan, the entire time, was just some gloomy sad sap like "must kill the dragon, let me be an a-hole to this one person who's entire existence is to help me do this." We didn't see the capital AT ALL. The part where he turned into the dragon definitely ruined it for lots of people. I even asked around and a lot of people agree. One of the few endings to Dragon's Dogma is if you fail to beat the Seneschal and die. When you die, you fall out of the weird room into the sky, turn into a dragon, and it plays the intro cutscene of the dragon coming into the world(but that dragon is you this time). But in the show, they just said that you turn into the dragon no matter what, and completely gave up on the Seneschal. Apart from that, it was very rushed, mentioning the lack of character development, not showing the capital whatsoever, and how they threw out the important parts like the dragon offering the deal of offering up a loved one(I know the dragon killed Olivia in the beginning, but had they left her alive they could have AT LEAST acknowledged that part of the game.) We don't see the dragonforged, and all of Cassardis just looked like some regular European Medieval Village, rather than what it actually was. (I'm not sure where it is from, what I mean is that the people there are based from a different culture, they're darker skinned and such.) Another thing that was left out was Salvation, I would've loved to see Salvation be brought into all that mess. All in all, they left out a lot of parts of the lore, and just tossed out all the things that made it so important. It turned into some fairytale gone wrong,
