Mage/Sorc pawn skill bad choices
Im new but from what I understand things like grand ingle or grand anything are not very good for pawns.

But every high level pawn I see in rift (from 100 to infinity) the majority have grand spells all the time. Do these people just not know how to skill their pawns or are some grand spells ok ?

These ppl fit their Pawns for their purpose. But also some just equip random things on Pawns (I saw few Rangers equipped with Fighter skill ring).

Anyway, this is hardly an issue as you can always remove the skill ring.

Grand skill not the worst thing if you can stagger knockdown enemies + torpor. There also sync function which at some point can nuke whole map in very short time.

Imho, skill bad choices for casters are:
- Grand version of spell, because pawns always use the higher tier of their spells even when they obviously wont have the time to complete it, and magic agent core skill. Both have the same effect of keeping your pawns busy doing useless things instead of helping you.
- Should also mention spells like high comestion (benefit from the high version is only the area of effect, not much the damage output, making the extra cast time not worth it), brontide (pawns AI just cant use that spell properly, period. Give them levin or fulmination instead) and frazil (that spell seriously sucks).
- Other spells that's better not to upgrade on pawns (kept at the basic version) are ingle (advantage of ingle is fast application of burning and knock down effect, increasing the cast time with the high version waste that advantage), necromancy (very usefull in bbi but annoying to have to wait for your pawn to cast the high version when the basic version do the job way faster and perfeclty of knocking down maneaters and revealing leapworms).
- Anodyne quickly become useless. Kinda the same with halidom. They can be usefull at early game to handle swarms of ghost/undead and heal/cure your party, but replace them asap with consummables and spellscreen (it's more efficient to reduce the damages taken than trying to fix the HPs lost).
It depends on the skill in question and what you want the pawn to do. Grand Bolide when spell synced with 4 sorcerers is a spectacle unlike anything in the game.

Grand Ingle and Levin are particularly good when combined with a Rusted Staff because it will Torpor most enemies on one cast.

Grand Fulmination is extremely good on Living Armor where High Fulmination can be a bit dodgy as the bubble is smaller and makes it possible for the Living Armor to strike the Sorcerer where they typically won't be able to strike the sorcerer using Grand Fulmination. This is applicable to other enemies although Elder Ogres and Eliminators can charge through it regardless of the size of the defense bubble.

Grand Gicel vs High Gicel is worth it because of the much higher stagger and knockdown values. Stagger and knockdown turn into more damage.

Grand spells are not worth it on pawns I agree since pawns are dumb and can’t play sorc or mage offensively unless if you keep the aggro the whole time. I still don’t mind pawns with grand skills. At this point I’m so careless with pawns that I don’t even care much about skills or augments. Just gear and inclinations. Grand ingle or levin can be worth it because they charge fast. But probably not bolide or gicel if you have atleast a double sorc party for spell syncing.
