Catacombs?
Ok I'm new at this, I've just started the game and fumbling my way through it. I've picked up two quest off the bulletin board and the map sends me to and old ruined castle covered in theives. Some try to kill me, but the ones in the castle don't. I can't find any catacombs to enter to kill the phantoms and (zombie?) warriors. I thought maybe you wait until dark and the theives turn into them or something but that didn't work. Where are the catacombs? Is the map marker sending me to the wrong place? If I go down to where the giant ogre/cyclops is I get attacked and killed. Did I fail to do something and now am not able to finish them?
And can you dual class(?) to like a fighter mage or is each profession(?) strictly limited to each occupational catagory?

There is a main quest involving the cult that leads you to the catacombs. Its north west from grand soren. There are hybrid class that is a combination of the basic classes. Mystic knight is like a fighter and sorcerer and magick archer is like a strider and sorcerer.

I'm sorry, I didn't make this clear. These are the training quest (as I understand them), I've not made it to Grand Soren yet. This location is to the west of the encampment that you first get to before going to Grand Soren.

Thieves castle marker is always lie. It is set whenever You get a quest without certain location.
Btw you will have to go to catacombs later on with progression in the main quest

the two quest I picked up, "Evil Underfoot(?) and "Set against the dead" are supposed to be training quest, yes? I got at the Encampment bulletin board. Do you mean these two are to be comepleted after I reach Grand Soren? I understand them to be "training " quest to help you level up before moving on to Grand Soren. I was concerned that moving on to Grand Soren would end my opportunity to complete them.

They're not training missions, bulletin board missions are just side quests, like the other guys said the catacombs are later in the main story.

None of the training quests actually matter. They're supposed to be completed as you progress through the game. Some of the training quest are to kill stuff that you simply will not be able to kill when you start out.

Okay thank you alll for the clarification!

You are limited to the class you are playing, but you may insert augments across the board. Say you have teh sinew augment (from Fighter Class) and you change to Mage. You can insert the Sinew augment into you character or main pawns character. There are two classess that use both magic and melee skills (Magic Archer and Mystic Knight) but not all the spells available to a sorcerer or mage are available to those two classes. The message boards offer side quests like "kill xyz of this type of monster" or "Guard Duty" etc... and the opportunity to complete some of those side-quests expires as you progress through various stages of the main game. Then there are quests available that are only obtained by speaking to various NPCs. If you wiki up Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen Stage 1-7 you will find a detailed list of which quests must be completed before going on to the next stage of the game. You can link from there to a more detailed explanation of what each quest involves. This game has a number of twists and turns and it can be confusing so I hope this helps you more fully enjoy it!

Ignore the thieves castle for now, your primary objective should be to head to Gran Soren with the head of a certain creature in tow. After this (and one or 2 more main story missions that take place within Gran Soren) you can start branching out where to go and figuring out which places are really dangerous for your current character level/gear etc.

Where you're up to right now you're not well equipped for most places available to you.

Think of the noticeboard quests as sidejobs-- they're meant to complete silently in the background while you go about your business. The important quests are the ones you accept from an NPC; these are the ones you'll occasionally get a warning about wrapping up your business before going on to do something new.

The reason there isn't a concrete map marker for noticeboard quests is often there are several different locations where the conditions can be satisfied.

Thanks. Is there some way you can amend the pawns you hire? or just outright kill them? It's like working with the Three Stooges sometimes. I stopped to pick some berriess and they all come running up to pick the same ones I was. The mage fell off the cliff and died. I had to re-load the game because I couldn't get to her to heal her( I just started the game back up so it was easier than waiting for them to fully die and reappear in rift). Most of the time they are right under my feet like a herd of cats.

try not to run out of stamina because that causes them to adopt guardian inclinations, when they start getting to close like that you might be better off releasing and rehiring maybe.

avoid guardian and nexus inclinations, you will find them both a huge hindrance.

When this occured I was just scrounging for berries. No stamina loss, just walked out of the Encampment.

Thanks for all your help everyone. I've another question. When playing as a mage, i set my skills to use for attack or heal. My primary skills set for my right and left button (and the"e" button) don't seem to work. No matter what skill I select all that I'm able to do is the basic firing spell (?) with the left mouse button and the "swing"staff with the right mouse button. Only the secondary skill slots actually allow me to assign spells from the list to use. Is this normal? Does this mean you can only assign three spell to use at any time while playing as a mage?
