Only multiplayer gameplay is to share won-made characters to others, and use others' made character for your adventure.
No, it's a forum term when someone answers the question before you.
This is set up for a 4-person party; you have your own Arisen, your main pawn (who you create and supervise as it levels) and you fill the other two party slots with pawns you rent from a clearing house area called the Rift.
While there is no PvP, the combat is top-notch: fluid, fast paced and addictive.
Just to clarify, when you play Dragon's Dogma, you create TWO (2) characters.
The Arisen is your player character. This is "you" in the game world. You control this character directly, but you can have a couple of "pawns" who fight alongside you like the party members of any other RPG. The game lore establishes them as devoted to serving your character, unlike the temporary party members you can meet in some parts of the story.
In addition to custom-creating your personal character, you have the option of designing your own pawn, who will be a constant companion. This character will always be around for you (unless you throw them off a cliff and avoid reviving them). You can also hire up to 2 other pawns to travel with you. These pawns may be generated randomly by the game, but can also be created by other players, and loaded into your game via the online connection.
Hired pawns earn currency for their owners based on level and time spent with a player, and can be gifted items which they deliver to the player who created them.
If this had Co-op it would be so much better.
You're not forced to hire pawns but you can't get rid of the one you created. However you can get him killed and then not go get him back, so you can sort of do it solo. The game would be extremely difficult to do solo on a new character though.
There's a perk for one of the classes (which, once unlocked, can be used on any class) which gives you a significant buff to your stats if you're alone, so the devs definitely considered it a valid approach to gameplay.
So true - totally agree with that.
