If I failed in Chasing shadows, how do I get the Idol?

Chasing shadows doesn't give you an idol. I has nothing to do with the idols or their related quests.

The gold idol comes from the quest to escort Fournival's daughter around town, Escort Duty iirc. If you do everything she likes and don't ever physically touch her, she gives it to you as a bonus reward after you get paid. Just don't forget to talk to her again after Fournival pays you.

[Dauntless]

Bronze idol - found at the witch's hut

Silver idol - doing some quest

Gold idol - given by Fournival's daughter for doing her quest perfectly

tips: stick close to her, carry some water, and let her have a close win

Also, there's a Bronze Idol found at Hillfigure Knoll.

The Silver Idol is from a noticeboard quest called Put the Eye Out. Just adding, in case there are some people who want to collect everything.
