So, if you're a Mystic Knight, you could potentially have a Sword, Mace, or Staff in your main hand. If you want the Dragon Mace (Dragon's Toll), you should have a Mace equipped. This probably all sounds obvious, but this is to clarify for those that don't understand how things generally work in this game (namely Dragonforging).
Now, this is isn't related to the question, but I'd recommend not immediately switching to the Dragon weapons in post-game. I'm sure you're excited to receive something so special in a game (aren't we all?), but the weapons you had previously, now Dragonforged, are most likely better than the default Dragon weapons. Wait until they're at least 3 Star, unless what you were using before were simply too weak to compare.
Oh, and also note that the weapons you'll find in... the next dungeon (not mentioning the name just in case), are not as good as the Dragon weapons you're gifted, but ARE better than anything else you can buy, so you'll still need them for pawns or for weapons you didn't have equipped when you killed Grigori.
The Ur weapons are only better if we're talking about the staves, Volant White and Talarian White. Lustrous Greatshield is only negligibly stronger than Dragon's Faith, and the melee weapons are only better for their bonus magick. The equivalent Dragon melee weapons have higher base STR damage, which is FAR more important in damage calculations.

TL;DR: Grigori's weapons are still generally better than anything on mainland Gransys, only BBI stuff is better.
ascalon is a really good choice and is better than dragons dogma simply because most of bbi ♥♥♥♥ is weak to holy and the ur dragon is weak to holy aswell. plus it looks cool.
that beeing said i never said the dragons weapons are weak. just that not getting the right one for your build isnt the end of the world as there simply is better stuff.
i found that ascalon outdamaged dragons dogma on nearly everything in bbi (except the dark bishop of course since its one of the rare holy types in there) but aginist most enemies ascalon did more damage as the great cannons get auto holy element with it.
that beeing said of course bbi lvl 2 and lvl 3 weapons outclass both. especially the lvl 3 stuff since its so far ahead of the maingame stuff stats wise.
the good thing about MK is its super versalite. the mace deals blunt damage and the sword slash. and MK can buff himself with holy or ice elements.
a good MK hybrid build can finish off daimons 2nd form in under 20 seconds for example. and that in a less cheesy way than blast arrows. and this is without pawns. purely solo damage. 1 round of periapts is enough for both forms before they expire hes dead.

sure if you can get a pure str weapon which is even better that will outdamage these holy type element weapons even on these enemies like for example lvl 3 bbi stuff.
however until you get your hands on these (excludeing gifted unpurified ones. that is literally cheating or atleast feels like it tbh) these holy weapons are an absolute solid choice. ascalon outdamaged dragons dogma for me. sans for enemies resistent to holy. but you can count these on 1 hand really.
of course people who just get gifted everything can just ignore everything and go straight to lvl 3 bbi stuff.
