In all the different forums I searched about this issue people said, that she has lots of unique irems to sell once she F I N A L L Y sets up her FU"%&/ shop...
Yeah, Madeline sets up shop in Gran Soren. She uses that shop down south at the bottom of the map, it is really close to the guy that dupes stuff for you. Its the building that has a label on the map, cant remember what they call it, and there is always a light on in there as if it is lived in. You could enter it before but nobody was in there. Try there. She shjould be there.
This happens. When you start a new game she is in the inn at Gran Soren.
Anyway, if she took your money and ran you'll meet her after Final Battle at Fields in Gran Soren. Unless she's your Beloved...which I don't advise.
In my current game this happened:
1) I received the quest for the idols from the weapon shop at the market place.
2) I have read on a forum about an escort-quest which has the gold-idol as reward
3) I studied all the message-/quest-boards but there was no such quest
4) I received the silver idol and gave it to the weapon shop... quest completed
5) Still no escort quest to find
6) I went to Madeleine's shop to get a quest to rescue her
7) I rescued her, geve her 50.000,-- and she vanished
So, at what point did I mess it up?
It's Fournival's Mansion btw, and only till high noon (there's a good reason for that), and after doing his eviction quest.
But again, you'll only have a hard time getting those rare items Maddie sells, for high prices mind you, no big deal.
That escort quest is one you get only from Fournival, and it only becomes available if you complete the "Land of Opportunity" side-quest in the way HE wants. Even then, the escort quests has multiple rewards possibilities, and the one you get depends on the attitude of the escortee. To get the gold idol, you have to do everything right, which means that you complete certain tasks withing a short amount of time. It can be frustrating to do, and I advise having a checkpoint save right before you do that quest.
2. Second, nice tip about checkpoint. Still one can load normal save if one meets unfavorable review, cause one gets rated at the end of each stage, by the "escortee" and Pawns, and the next stage doesn't start untill one talks to the subject.
3. Anyway, the most crucial is to pick a servile response when asked at the beginning of the quest, and maintain close enough distance, throughout the whole escort, without bumping into the subject.
BTW It's really funny how much the quest designer does to make it easier. Still ppl can fail it, especially if they listen to less knowledgeable Pawns during the final race ;)
I guess I will skip it then, because that's a reason for me to quit a game for good.
In a way. However, it's not nearly as bad as it could have been. The mini-games themselves don't start until you reach a general area within Gran Soren, and the tasks you have to do make sense because they're the sort of things a spoiled rotten little girl (which the escortee is) might have you do, and completing them is actually pretty easy if you know what you're doing. During the early part of the quest, she even says "I rather like having the Arisen as my personal servant", so the game gives you a little bit of foreshadowing that it's coming.
Besides, it's the ONLY way to get a gold idol, and that's what you need to get Madeleine's best stuff.
Was it a fault to accept the quest from the weapons shop at the market place, meaning, if I accept it from him, I won't have the chance to get it from Madeleine respectively even if I had the golden idol I could just give it to the shopkeeper and not to her?
