How does dragon forging work?
I summoned a cursed dragon in BBI, shot it with a makers finger and usually only ONE of my items gets dragon forged. The video that showed me how to do this had 5-6 pieces of equipment get dragon forged at once. All of my equipment were at least one star or above. Is it solely by chance or did I do something wrong?

I could be wrong, but in my experience, only Grigori dragonforges every piece of equipment.

Lesser Dragons or Drakes have only every dragonforged one of my items.

Hmm, maybe this would help if I showed a visual.

Skip to the 29:10 mark and you’ll see that cursed dragons can dragon forge a good handful of equipment at once.

It's a chance. You can get anything between 0 to 8 Dragonforge per dragon kill.
The more individual item is upgraded, more is the Dragonforge chance.

Ah so if my stuff were 2 stars or three then it has a better chance to upgrade? Good to know, thank you

Though with cursed dragons, the rate is so high that it's better to simply go there with un-upgraded gear and just reload your save or fight nother one if you didnt get the pieces you wanted to be DF.

Oh and if you dont mind speedrunning the game (not speedrun mode, normal playtrough but done as a speedrun), Grigori chance to DF is 100%.... and it's really fast to do:

The thing is though that I use maker arrows to instantly kill the cursed dragon, and those are straight up one time use so there’s no reloading saves or anything :/

And I’ll check that out soon enough after I get some priorities out of the way (:
CD have around a 75% chance to dragon forge and they spawn like candy in the coutyard off of Helix and in Rotunda and in the presence of rancid bait.

Yep dragon forging is based on the dragon your fighting. The main dragon has 100% chance to dragon forge every item. Other dragons have lower chances based on their difficulty, the lowest ones have only like a 1-6% chance, i think a drake maybe. So you won't get it every time. Hopefully you will, but only the main dragon in the game has a 100% chance.

And like the other people said, the more its already upgraded, the better the chance, except again for the main dragon which is 100% no matter what. You might fight a drake, and non-upgraded has 1%, while 3 stars might be 6%, you get the idea.

Don't worry about it too much, you'll have at least your main basic armor/weapon dragonforged during a normal playthrough with beating the main dragon, and maybe if you grind some later in the game and do the isle you might get a few more pieces.

Why would you want to use maker's fingers against CD ? They're probably the easiest scavenger you can find in BBi, if you lack attack power just bring periapts.... Only reason to use one against Grigori is because this make you skip the entire fight against him, saving lot of time.

because later in the game you have plenty of money and can afford to launch off a makers finger against foes that you don't really want to waste time fighting. Your out doing something, oh a foe, i don't feel like taking a few minutes fighting it, ill just kill it right quick and move on.

This page on the wiki has a table with the chance to dragon forge items, note that the chance is per item.

https://dragonsdogma.fandom.com/wiki/Dragon_Forged_Equipment

Cursed Dragons are by far the best targets to dragon forge multiple items (outside The Dragon), especially if you have multiple batches (such as new gear for you and your pawn). 0-star gear will have as good a chance of being dragon forged as 3-star gear on the second best targets.

Then save your MF and use them to farm the online Ur dragon.... you need 30 to kill online Ur by yourself and if you got Fournival at Grigori confrontation, he will be in Cassardis Inn, not too far from the entrance to the chamber of lament on Cassardis beach.

CD takes a few minutes to kill at worse: expose their heart, break one horn, attack the heart again untill he gets KD, finish it while he's lying on his side on the ground. You can start doing it solo around level 80-100 without much effort and on hard mode (once you know your stuff enough you can even start farming them around level 40-50).
The simpler trick to make CD super easy to fight is to stay on one of their side to bait them into using the side clawing attack which is super slow and easy to avoid (just run underneath their body or block with a shield), not only you wont get hit but after his animation you will be at the exact same position relative to him, but on the opposite side (to bait him into doing it again endlessly).

A bit more on chance factor. A 75 percent chance means the game will generate a random number between 1 and hundred. If the number is between 1 and 75 you get dragonforging otherwise you won't get it. So every gear you are wearing is measured against that chance individually. And if the rng is on favor you get the dragonforging.
Same goes with chest farming.

They get the job done real fast for me, and the last time I tried fighting without it, I couldn’t make a dent in him. I think I was level 50 at the time, now I’m around 74. I have maxed out assassin, strider and mystic night. What would be easiest to use against them?

Oh so I have to have the equipment I wanna DF equipped on me? I thought they’d just forge themselves either way. Good to know, thanks
