Symone is not appearing in her hiding places. Guess I will not get the golden idol. Am I missing a lot of equipment?

Only if you are not prone to grinding. The same equipment can be found in chests in Greatwall and Everfall (and Bitterblack ofc), ti much later. And you wouldn't have access to all anyway, there are two questigivers after all.
Alternatively you can use Silver and Bronze idols, that's better than nothing.

BTW Ofc by hiding places you mean Union Inn behind fireplace and Arsmith Alehouse's backyard, right? Have you verified game files' integrity? It may be that some files are corrupted...

Yes i checked both places she's at neither.
Well I will try that but doubt it will work.

The gear is only good if you're only trying to get the look to go with the maiden's set otherwise it will be replaced fast so dont worry about it. http://dragonsdogma.wikia.com/wiki/Maiden%27s_Set

What's so hard to get for Maiden's set without Golden idol?

The Maiden's set pieces are all available from chests in the Blighted Manse-- assuming you can get in. It requires doing Alienore's quest line to open the door, as that's the only way to get the armor you need to get by the guard.
