You want to improve that skill you're spamming all the time, You want more resist to certain negative effect and so on.
Don't ask for "best gear". Go into the game and look what You have and what You need.
Other than that, I use Dragonroar since it has a +8 Magik and +8 Strength, but most importantly it has 100% resistance to Skill Stifling when fully upgraded.
To me, the most important and hard to find items are Master rings that are either +Magik/Health or a +Strength/Health or maybe a +Strength/Stamina. On a min/max Sorcerer or Assassin, you want to go with a Health boost. On a warrior/fighter, you may want to boost stamina instead. On something like a ranger, you probably want both a Strenght/Stamina and a Strength/Health since Ranger Skill rings are not that benificial.
*I play mostly as Magik Archer or Sorcerer, so I know that I am a scrub in case any of my friends read this. :-P
Others really depend on your armor of choice. For instance I dressed my Strider Pawn with Bandages cause they supplement the lacking Defenses Lowered attrtibutes of BBI armor she has (she also donned White stockings simply cause they fit the outfit ;).
I usually go for armor and gear that gives my character good protection against elements and debiliations, but I will not use anything that covers my character's face, and I will try to find combination that also looks good together and on that particular character. So I start with the coats and pants and headgear, ie things that are visible, then add underwear and rings that balance out any negative stats.
Elemental resistances are ok but I find that debilitation resistances are more useful on my Arisen and Pawn. A posessed pawn can and will kill you so resistance to it can be very important, depending upon the foes you are up against. Debilitations like Skill stiffling, Sleep, Cursed and Petrification are also all things to watch out for as they can seriously degrade your pawns effectiveness (or even get him/her killed). So, when I rent a pawn, I look for those with high resistance to those 5 debilitations. Makes for less to carry in the way of curatives.
