How Do I Get A New Staff?
I switched from mage to Sorcerer, and my rusty wooden staff stopped being a weapon for some reason. Now I have no idea where to go or what to do.

You can get weapons at the blacksmith's shop in Gran Soren, and also at the Black Cat in Gran Soren. Basically, any place that sells weapons/armor will have sorceror's staves.

If you'd buy an Archistaff then you're back in action. But if you're looking for a rusted one, you'll need to find one like at those locations
https://dragonsdogma.wikia.com/wiki/Rusted_Archistaff
and get a lots of brooms ;)
or just switch back to Mage untill you get some Archistaff.

If you're at Gran Soren then you can buy an Archistaff at the blacksmith's. If you're at BBI and haven't gone to Gran Soren yet then you can go into BBI, run past the enemies in the first map (there are some hobgoblins you can kill on the way, but the other enemies are probably too strong for you...bring mushrooms!), and you'll see a merchant when you enter the second map that'll sell you an archistaff among other stuff.

The black smith just keeps going on and on thanking me for saving his son. When does he get over that? Because it's getting kind of annoying.

That's not the one you buy equips, the one you're talking about is there just for this quest. The shop with the equip is in the square by the fountain. :D

It's just ppl calling Caxton the Armorer a blacksmith, idk why, must be a community thing ;)
You wanna head to Caxton Armory by the square...
or Alon at the Ancient Quarry, Jayce at Devilfire Grove or Mathias at the Greatwall camp.

There's actually two blacksmiths in Gran Soren. The one you're talking about is just a quest-giver whose quest introduces you to the concept of Wakestones. The one who actually buys/sells stuff is Caxton, and his shop is in the main square; it's to the northwest of the fountain.

Nope, Caxton is an armourer in the modern meaning, a [shop]keeper at armory, he's a merchant not a craftsman. Even further to the story one learns how he gets his "wares".

Caxton+blacksmith=bs

Ah, I thought it used the traditional meaning. Must have been the game's overuse of fake "Olde" English that confused me.

Okay, thanks for explaining that because I was VERY confused as to what was going on. I just didn't explore the market area enough to see there was a weapon's shop there. In my defense, this is my first playthrough of the game.
