Grim Reaper
So, just recently I hit level 45 and decided to pay a visit to Bitterblack Isle. I'm actually not that far in the story, I'm about to meet Duke at the castle but yeah anyways. So, I read that this area isn't for players below level 30, and that's kinda why I decided to get on 45 first. But heh, jokes on me, I was walking around, when out of nowhere in some sort of garden I guess, 5 meters tall Grim Reaper summoned and well... reaped all of my pawns in like 3 or 4 seconds. I tried to pretend he didn't have like 20 dots of HP but yeah... is this level 130 area or something? I feel like I shouldn't be here, even tho I have no issue with the smaller mob so far. Am I doing something wrong or?

i havent done BBI since the ps4 release, but its pretty much end game content. Im fairly sure this is the hardest content in the game, so unless you know what you're doing I'd say you should wait until end game to go through it
All right I'll keep it in mind, thanks. I'm assuming that means the Isle is optional area?

The reaper goes away in about a minute. Just turn around and leave the room.

Ye the Reaper is there just to annoy you, he's pretty much immortal till you go far deeper.

nah, you just need a barbed nail and a good magic bow and ricochet arrow.

when you go to retreat from him retreat into the smallest passage you can and spam ricochet bolt, if you cant knock him down then run, if you can.. shoot him again.. and again.. and again..

he isn't immortal, just strong.

i started a new game as a mystic knight and death is so hard to kill with the gear i have. my first arisen was a assassin turned ranger and defeating death was a piece of cake.
Damn thanks for all the advice, so I'm taking it he isn't so bad to slay, but it's gonna take more than guts. At what level *could* I be in able to actually damage him, or kill him or something? I think it's pointless to even attempt fighting him as long as he reaps the entire pawn squad in a single strike.

Level doesn't mean much in this game ...apart from Level locked weapons ofc.

"Show me your gear and I'll show you how you don't know your gear"

You can slay the "Dark Bathrobe dude" as you are, just need a better quality equipment ti dragonforged and goldforged even (plus some damage and knockdown boosters). And you shouldn't let him hit you ofc ;)

So it's a no hit battle, eh? Miss those from Dark Souls.
I have really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ equipment to be honest, I'm not even that far in the story, the last main story related quest was meeting with the Duke. The reason why I don't bother with equipment so much is pretty much because I'm currently trying out different vocations, and I must say, in the future I'll be avoiding any kind of sorcery like plauge. I'm using Anchor to Heaven 1* and it's absolute trash, like, I end up using heavy (melee) attack much more often than the spells because I hate aiming/ waiting for my character to finish channeling. But usually, I use Shortbow 3* and Tight Cinqueda 2*, some of my armor pieces got dragonforged against the drake at Devilfire Grove, but that's about it. Any stronger equipment I can find at the moment, or is most of the great stuff DLC related?

your gonna need gear, and ALOT of stamina.

it gets easier.

Death is actually the hardest of the BBI bosses.

Wait till you hit Rank 6 ;)
Also: it's not always all about damage. Sometimes a simple Rusted staff 3* can turn tough fight into a child's play.

You can upgrade your dragon forged equipment even further, at BitterBlack. And should you be able to dragon forge your Cinquedea (which then you can easily upgrade to a gold level) you'd basically have weapon against Reaper. Just get yourself a +10% Strength Fighter Augment (forgot the name), use some Conquerror periapts prior the fight and hit with a top Rank skill (those usually hit like a train) and you got him.

ctrl f (100% sleep resist), zero results. There is a reason why 100% sleep, possession and petrification resists are very nice. Death is one of them. The others being dragons and cockatrice. These are the only ailments that will actually kill you and rift your pawns if unprepared.

easiest thing to do when it happens is just godsbane to restart again, rather than havingto go to the rift and all, when that happens.

I actually do have 100% sleep resist, unsure about other stats (to be precise: I'm unsure what their icons looks like but I know I have sleep resist on 100% and 7/8 other resistances at about 60%). Either way, I doubt it would change much at this point. I'll just face him once I thoughen up a bit and improve.
