Held items

Quick question about holding 'tools' for use in fights (eg tomes, bombs, bricks etc).

After I set an item to 'hold' from the inventory menu, there are two options for 'throw' (right click and left click) but nothing to put away/ sheathe. Surely you should be able to switch between your held item and primary weapon?! I have to either throw it immediately after holding it, or cheat it by using a hot key (eg lantern) item twice (equip then unequip) to return to my staff. Basically I want to know if this is how the system was designed (in which case - wtf?) or if this is a bug related to key mapping.

put away the hold item, same step as when u put them to use.
go through the inventory, u should noticed the hold item is now listed as 1st item, and the action over it is - put away.
