So all over gran soren doors are shut fast. any way to unlock them? am afraid to use the one skeleton key i have on a random door

There is only 1 door in the city to unlock with the skeleton key. Any other door that is locked during the day will be all the time locked. you can craft skeleton key if you collected some shackles from bandits for example. It's always good to have at least 2-3 skelton keys with you.

What door are you talking about that is unlocked with a skeleton key in the city? I've not seen one yet but there are 2 generic looking doors in the Venery District that can be opened during the day (no key required). There is just some search piles and a chest or two inside them. They often have a lot of cloth materias and can produce lots of silk.

I don't remember being able to unlock it unless you do the quest to free prisoner or are a prisoner and have 2 skeliton kees (one to get out of your cell and another to get into the cell with the secret passage). I have been playing and all these years had some strange feeling of my roommate having found a way to unlock it early and from the town side. I'm right at the part in my main game so i'll give it a try.

On the pawn guild side after you climb the stairs there is a door. At least on the first playthrough that door is locked and you need a skeleton key to unlock it; which you can find in a chest closeby.

I've never had that door be locked for me. Are you talking about the door that is next to the chest with the skeleton key in it?
