I personally just stay close to him, hit his legs untill he gets little staggered, and hit his heart when I can (You can hit the heart without climbing it when he does certain moves, I don't remember exactly, I recommend experimenting yourself.) I also make sure that my archer is safe and can hit the heart.
Only way would be to reset at the latest checkpoint. I don't think you'll lose much, tho, at leas I didnät.
Ranger is probably the single best class for a pawn. They don't have to worry about positioning or cast times, they can just pump out damage without thought.
