In normal conditions of Gransys, it doesn't really matter at all.
#1: Mystic Knight / Magick Archer
I'm not even going to explain this one.
#2: Strider / Ranger
Insane DPS, Striders are amazingly effective at close range and when climbing, while Rangers are ranged DPS machines. They're not at #1 only because Living Armor is a thing.
#3: Sorcerer / Fighter
They have their drawbacks, but despite them, they can be really good at what they do. Fighters are nearly untouchable if played correctly and Sorcerers' spells can be devastating if given the room and time needed to charge them. They both get bonus style points.
#4: Assassin / Mage
There's almost nothing a Mage can do that a Sorcerer can't, healing is only good early on if you struggle and don't have enough curatives, and later it can actually become annoying.
As for Assassin, it has nothing exceptional among their skills, save that cheesy Masterful Kill (which you won't be able to use to deal with everything), and Dire/Deadly Gouge is actually good, but the rest of their abilities and augments are mostly garbage. Striders are still better at climbing and have access to Brain Splitter along with Hailstorm Volley, Rangers have Tenfold Flurry and Reaper's Arrow.
Assassins have none of it, and they don't have the Fighter's Hindsight Strike or Dragon's Maw either.
Assassin is this game's jack-of-all-trades, who are notorious for being masters of none.
#5: Warrior
Decent damage per swing... too bad it takes forever to execute even a basic combo.
Only three skill slots. Garbage damage overall. No shield/block to protect themselves like the other red vocations, very few i-frames, so they can't pull off what Fighters can. The only thing they're potentially good at is staggering and knocking enemies down. Provided they aren't staggered or knocked down themselves before they can do it to their enemies...
Now if you care about min-maxing then to get the most out of magic classes like MK and MA you'll need to spend alot of time as a Sorc since they have the biggest magic stat growth between each level up of any class, likewise the Assasin has the biggest strength stat growth of any class so if your looking to get the most out of any str or magic based class at max level you might want to take heed of this but if you aren't concerned with min-maxing than you can just ignore everything I just said, hope this helped.
Strider is much better than Assassin. Most of Assassins skills are situational, the parry is useless against Daimon 2nd form and Death for instance and thousand kisses would demolish anything if you can get a climb on so gouge is not needed, most of their bow skills also suck ass. Compare that to strider which has two incredibly useful bow skill (hailstorm volley and fracture dart), Brainsplitter which is extremely powerful against most enemies in the game, fastest climb speed and climb damage multiplier. The only reason to play assassin is for the stats growth.
Mystic knight is 2nd only due to the fact that setup is require for it to work at its maximum performance.
