Quest timing?
Hey I just started this game and I'm a little confused about quest timing. Sorry about my bad memory for location names.

After Rook takes you to roll up your main pawn, you fight a hydra. Then you're asked to go help transport a the head to the castle city. However, you can also go back to your home town at the beach and meet a strange woman at night.

I did the latter first, and she took me to Bitterblack(?) Isle... I was like, Oh am I supposed to be here yet?

Anyway I went back to go escort the serpent head and I'm wondering what I should do next. Back to Bitterblack Isle? Or grind out some smaller quests around the city?

Also, can anyone give me a short explanation on how warping works?

Thanks in advance.

Bitterblack Isle will always be there. It's the expansion content, and has enemies that you can fight at somewhat low levels, ranging all the way up to needing to be end-game level or you'll get wiped. Just visit BBI whenever you feel like it, see how far you can get, and don't be afraid to leave and come back later.

There are quests that do expire if left alone, however. These tend to be the quests you get from people that have green symbols over their heads. They will be skipped or auto-failed if you proceed in the story. So make sure you do those before you keep the story going further. They can also be found all over the place, so make sure to either check a guide so you don't miss any quests if you want to do all of them, or at least check areas you've been to before to see if there are quests there after each story quest.

By "warping" I assume you mean the ferrystones? In your storage you'll have an eternal ferrystone. Pull it out and keep it on you. Using it allows you to warp to port crystals. Some port crystals are set in place and look like rings of stones (like the one just outside Cassardis) while others look like a singular crrystal that you can pick up. The ones you can pick up can be placed almost anywhere you want to place them, allowing you to create a point to warp to with the ferrystones.

Ohhh, expansion content. Got it.

For the ferrystones, I'll have to keep an eye out for that. I'm not familiar with your description so maybe I'm just not far along enough in the game. (Or maybe I'm just not very observant). I did pick up some kind of crystal at the bottom of an enormous spiral staircase...

Yeah, that'd be a port crystal. You can set it wherever you want to have a point that you can fast travel to. You can also pick it back up after setting it, so don't worry about maybe needing it later. You can always go back and get it. The etrenal ferrystone is basically a ferrystone that doesn't get used up when you use it. So, a permanent fast travel.

ok cool. Thanks for your comments Makoto

Port Crystals are located at Gran Soren, Cassarids and Bitter Black Island. Ater you got to Gran Soren and entered the Inn by the fountain you could access your pantry (the game calls it something else but it's your storage area). In that inventory you should have found a coin like thing called an "eternal ferry stone". Pick that up and it will be added to your active inventory. You don't need to equip it. If you click on things in your inventory a screen will pop up giving you several options. Click on the "use" option. Another screen will pop up and list a number of places/cities. These places are where either permanent port crystals are located or where you place a portable port crystal (like the one you found at the bottom or a stairway). You can pick anyplace listed and you will fast travel (or warp) to that location. It is the only way to fast travel in the game. You can have up to 9 portable port crystals active at a time, assuming you can find that many. There is a shop in Gran Soren that will make counterfeit items for you for a fee.
When you click on the "forgery" option a screen will pop up showing everything in your pantry that can a forgery can be made of. Select what you want and give him 1, wait a day and go back and the forgery will be ready. You can have him make a forgery of a port crystal, but it will not work. You cannot return it and it cost you over 100K to have it made. Really sucks. Nothing warns you that it will not work, but I guarentee you that it will not. Another thing called the "Wrym King Ring" also will not work. You obtain the real one in a quest. That takes us to the quest concern you mentioned. Quests are missions you get either from talking to NPCs or from notice boards located in the Tavern in Gran Soren, inside the Inn at Cassardis, or from inside the pawn guild at Gran Soren. There are two of them in Bitterblack Isle, but that place is deadly dangerous and so are the quests posted on the boards. You can accept as many quests as you like. There is no penalty if you do not complete them. I consider them as offers. You complete the quest and you get a reward (weapons, money, experience points). What you'll get is listed on the quest board notice. On the menu screen you will see "Quests" on the left. Click on it and all your active quests will be shown. Click on one and a marker will appear highlighting that quest. In the center of your menu screen is one for "Map". The map comes in three forms. 1st is local area, 2nd is general area and 3rd is the entire map of Granys. There are two circles that will appear on the map. Red ones indicate where you have to go IOT complete the quest and the blue one is where you are. Some quests (offers) expire when you complete something else in the game. Some offers are open until you compelte them. There are two types of quests. Main game and Side game. All main game quests come from NPCs. But not all quests you receive from NPCs are main game quests but failure to complete those quests will most certainly impact your game later on. Like going to the witchwood and hooking up with the girl you first met after getting your butt kicked by the dragon at hte start of the game. Complete this quest after talking to the village chief and before you complete the quest to enter the Everfall located in the pawn guild. Across the road from the pawn guild is the village blacksmith whose son has fallen ill. He will give you two wakestone shards. It takes three to make a complete wakestone. You can complete the quest by buying a shard from a fat guy whose is located near the Castle Gate. Not a city gate.
OR, there is one at the bottom of the Everfall you can pick up for free. So...before you go into the Everfall (Main Game Quest) talk to the blacksmith and accept his quest. You can find out for Barnaby what is going on in the Everfall and get the means to heal the blacksmiths son at the same time. Before you went to Gran Soren from the Encampment escorting the hydra head you should have talked to the Cassardis village priest located in the church and found his missing scriptures (side quest). There's a dude who is either in the church or his home (which is, if you are headed uphill towards the church, the last house on the right.) He wants you to tell another NPC that his cousin is dead. (another side quest) You do that and you complete the quest . There is a third quest you should have gotten from the village healer to find some flowers for her so she can heal the folks wounded in the dragon attack. Two kinds of flowers she wants (5 of one and 1 of the other). If you don't receive and complete these three quests before going to Gran Soren with the Hydra head the opportunity to do them is gone forever. One last thing and then I'll close. As you wander around the village, city and talk to NPCs you can offer them a gift at the start of the conversation. Certain NPCs like certain things. Ladies in Cassardis like capeflowers. Ladies in Gran Soren like Loneflowers, men in Cassardis like Beefsteak and Men in Gran Soren like large or giant fish. Soldiers like throwing knives. They don't ask you for the gift. Just give them one. Giving them what they like will raise their affinity towards you. This can result in cheaper prices from merchants/vendors, a quest to escort them to another location etc... These type of quests will appear later on (usually a day later) on the notice boards located at the Inn in Cassarids or on the one in the Tavern in Gran Soren. These quests will earn you money, experience, a mineral, potion etc... Not a lot, but easy to complete in most cases. I call these "silent quests" and complete as many as I can. You will need to have a number of people to have a strong affinity towards you later in the game. Hope this helps. Enjoy the game!

Yup!
Found this out too late with Madelaine when she asks for an escort to the Outpost, I ignored her at first, figuring I could come back and do her quest, got to level 20, and found her in the inn in Grand Soren, with no option to help her open her shop.

So I started right over from the beginning

Regarding quests; There are 7 stages in the main story, whenever you proceed to the next stage some sidequests may become unavailable (the first stage finishes when you escort the hydra's head to Gran Soren with Mercedes. The next when you complete the Wyrmhunt quests). Helpfully whenever you get to these points the NPC you have to speak to will always ask if you are ready to proceed. If you hear this say "No" and check the wiki to see if you have any outstanding side quests that will beomce unavailable:

http://dragonsdogma.wikia.com/wiki/Quests

Also some quests have to be completed within a cetain time e.g. 3 in game days, so make sure you've done everything else you want before starting these. It's worth doing a hard save (go into a rift stone) before starting any new quest, that way you can re do it if you ♥♥♥♥ up (Note that a few major quests do an automatic hard save when you start them).

Finally, if you miss or fail any quests as a last resort you can try again in NG+

Hope that's helpful!

This and some other Quest are rly stupid. It apears, AFTER you going to encampment. So normaly you trying to go ahead with the next Quest(that will let the Quest Fails). Who in the Hell goes Back after the first Main Mission, only to see if a new Quest is appears? oO

Same with the Quest that appears, after Witchhunt. Why you should go back there, after helped Selene?
