You probably used wakestone on him after the fight with Mercedes , that makes his affection to max out towards you. But don't worry it happens for most people to get unwanted beloved. Igot a random fat soldier once, got Caxton for example. The whole affection mechanic is pretty dumb.

Uh, do you mean Fournival? He's alive anyway (providing you complete a certain quest in a certain way). Or perhaps you mean Mountebank (Black Cat merchant), who is also still alive anyway in post game. They both generally hang around behind Arsmith's Alehouse.

"still alive"? He doesn't get swallowed up by the Everfall, if that's what you mean. You can find him alive and functional behind the tavern that offers fetchquests.

I got Quina ( not sure of the spelling ) and I didn't even do the quest to save her, missed that completely. Although she seemed sweet on me from the very beginning of the game. :)

I got Symone and Caxton before. Caxton was my first playthrough symone was my current but I just ran through and did nothing for affinity and said "what the hell. Let's see who I get." Just so happens I got her. I got back to Cassardis and threw her into the ocean.
