A Warning to new players - Talking to the Duke.
Spoilerwarning.

As a player with somewhat of a moral code never to help the corrupted or hurt the innocent, there is a quest you will receive after meeting the Duke which really screwed up my gameplay and i now feel i have to warn anyone who is new to the game.

Unless you want to assist in setting the corrupted merchant Fournival free from his accusers, and feel like a total *** in the process. It turns out that Fournivald is a mechant who will walk over corpses and evict families from their houses and lands to earn some silver.

So if you're new to the game and really take offense to aiding this type of characters, DO NOT assist in proving his innosense at the trial.

I myself will have a real hard time moving forward with this playthrough now when i know i helped setting this corrupted merchant loose.

The problem with not keeping him alive is that you lose out on some really good end-game items.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't... Ce la Vie.

If you send Fournival to jail you lose access to the Makers Finger, an arrow that can oneshot the Dragon if aimed properly.

Kill the dragon and you'll realize helping him (in the eviction and trial quests) is not a bad decision.

I think you might be overreacting. Where do you get that Fournival is "walking over corpses"?
As far as I know, his worst "sin", if you can call it that, is that he evicts a family of three because he thinks he can make more money with his real estate some other way - not exactly a crime of unparalleled evil in the history of human kind.
That and that he isn't exactly following the Duke's law in his dealings with merchants and so on from other realms, but the Duke's a ♥♥♥♥ anyway.

Personally, I wouldn't fret over the decision if I were you. There are far more momentous things going on in Gransis, after all, and in the end there is always New Game + for the perfect playthrough.
(Just keep in mind that to enter New Game+ you have to load your save game, NOT to choose New Game in the main menu! You'll lose all your progress)

In my opinion, he is not worth keeping around for the items he sells; do with him as you please.
Except for a rather gimmicky way of killing the Dragon early, the maker's arrow is completely pointless. It is unnecessary against most post-game enemies, and straight-up doesn't work against the real bosses.

Cheers

The Maker's Finger may not *one shot* death, but it does take several bars off per shot (and these bars don't regenerate between encounters) worth 300K a pop? Up toy ou.

Man, this guy sounds awesome. I totally have to do his quest and leave a trail of bloody violence.

You can also have him as your lover. No, I'm not joking.

Fournival did nothing wrong. If ya don't pay your rent, you get evicted. It isn't pretty but it's not like it's evil.

From my memory there wasn't anything that they did, Fornival just wanted them gone for some reason I can't remember.

If you actually pay attention, his evictions wound up saving the lives of his former tenants.

EDIT: That wasn't Fournival's intention, but it still turned out for the better.

things to keep in mind:

1. if you don't evict them they die in the post-game.

2. while fournival is almost certainly guilty in that quest, you have to keep in mind that a lot of the evidence used for or against him likely wouldn't be admissible in modern court, or at least not enough for a conviction (calling someone who doesn't like him as a witness to say he's an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥? does being an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ make him guilty of unrelated charges?)

also keep in mind, does he deserve to die for such a minor crime? the penalty for money laundering is death? wtf? what about his little girl, does she deserve to be homeless and on the street for that?

3. a minor point, but a lot of the evidence against fournival aside from the ledger in his house are basically angry testimonies, but the evidence in his favor says stuff like "proves fournival innocent", compare:

When I have done the quest the sentence has always been life imprisonment when he is found guilty. I have seen death mentioned a lot though so I am not sure, maybe it is different in some of the translations or something. Also I have heard, I think on the wiki, that you can buy the house so that Symone can still live there.
