I don't think this will be added, but if it is, a campaign mode wouldn't even be necessary. Would really boost the appeal of the game too. Commander mode already makes it into a FPS-RTS hybrid somewhat...throw in Galactic Conquest and all the turn-based people make be on board.
Edit: You should post this into the ideas and suggestions sub-forum too.
Let me take Sins of a Solar Empire, for example. I ran a game with three other friends for a long time. As time went on, however, it became increasingly difficult to get the other two together. When one was available, the other was busy. Or they didn't feel like playing, or real life got in the way.
Point is, the more players you have for a more persistent gamemode like Galactic Conquest, the more players have to be online at the same time in order to finish it. Trying to fulfill a full game at regular intervals is going to be all but impossible.
Yeah it would have to be a singleplayer only component. It would make singleplayer more worthwhile though for sure. It could be like the old school Battlefront 1 type too where you just select planets and each planet has a bonus. When you take a planet you get the bonus and when you lose a battle, the other player gets to choose where to attack, and each faction has a capital planet that has like a super attack or something (like in Star Wars Battlefront 1, the Empire had the Death Star and Rebels had some sort of liberate ability where they instantly take a planet).
In any case I would much rather them prioritize the new user experience in order to get a player base going. The new user experience is, after all, the game's first impression. And as everyone knows, first impressions only come once.
I'll do that, thanks.
We think it would work pretty well without much fiddling - its essentially just a glorified map picker. aff maps run off a playlist anyway , you wouldnt really have to lock players into a game, you'd just have to fit that strategic mechanic into the period between fights, and give meaningful connections to the strategic game in the matches being played.
Honestly the fact you want to do it alone is encouragment enough for me that you'll eventually have it, best of luck to you guys. (also maybe consider mod support)
omg please let this become a reality. I'm already seeing a contender for best indie :D
Only 2 I couldn't find were the new Igneous station and Yin Tao Shan. Fortress wasn't present either, but the map description pointed it as one of the planets closest to the Poranti system.

Good for reference.
XD there is a surprising amount of concept art and stuff on Google relating to AFF and the previous AFF: Planetstorm. I think that's where the map came from: AFF: Planetstorm.
I dont remember. I think it was on Deviantart
