It's almost 2024 and there is no update in sight. No, the reviews aren't trolling, their complaints are legitimate.
And it came from a non-dev.
Yes. The devs need to extend their communication to Steam badly.
I agree, if you sell your product only on steam then make any and all communications on that same platform or at least repay it here and not just hideout on discord pretending you are informing your customers because you are not.... its complete BS.
They are getting the feedback/reviews etc they deserve, especially when you claim this project is only being made for "fun and giggles".
Great game that could have been huge but let down by some of the worst marketing decisions in game development and extremely poor communication.
To Dev's:
Get the f'k off discord and use steam to communicate or remain cowards.
To be fair, player count has always been incredibly low.

The all-time-peak spiked up to over 1k in 2018, but it has pretty much floated around double digit player counts for almost all of its lifetime.
Yep 100% agree. Everything pretty much went to ♥♥♥♥ when all communication migrated to Discord. I can't stand Discord. It's a disorganized mess and tedious to find old reports/news. Hell, the AFF Discord itself presents like a meme party or image broad. Not an actual professional platform.
I don't regret spending the $14.99 I spent on AFF when it first released in early access. I've gotten well over 200 hours in the game. So I got my money's worth, but it does make me sad that it was a really great idea and very unique, but ultimately dissolved due to more management.
Source: Trust me, bro.
It's quite unfortunate, really, but from a financial and business standpoint, the game has failed. It doesn't much surprise me that it's in the state it is in, I'd probably lose interest in developing a game for many years too if it felt like it's all for nothing and the game is largely finished.
In another thread, someone mentioned that apparently, a lot of the original developers left the team when Covid hit. I don't know if that is actually true or not, but if it is, that would explain why development stopped nearly entirely. Hiring more developers isn't feasible when there's no money, and even then, they wouldnt be familiar with the game at all which makes it harder.
Only thing I'd wish for is if they were a lil more transparent about all of that on the Steam News too. Like for the very least, when the devs announce an update that never happens, it'd be nice to know more about that and why it doesnt happen instead of being left in the dark. Not that it would really change anything about the state of the game but at least we'd know more and aren't just left in the unknown about things.
