There are two things making finding ores a little difficult:
1.) Ores like tin and gold will only spawn under snow. Just being high up in the mountains isn't enough - the place where you're digging should be exactly under blocks of snow. If you start digging stairs downwards under snow but you're digging in a direction without snow, you might miss those ores that way.
2.) The ores spawn at specific depths, but the depths are measured from the surface level downwards. Mountains often have steep surfaces, which causes the ores to spawn in a similar 'steep' pattern, instead of forming a nice horizontal level.
The game is rated for ages 12 and up. Just make it really difficult so that everyone loses interest in the game and no more are sold.
There is probably a competition among the developers to see who can ruin their game as quickly as possible.
Uninstalling.
