I can't fly

Maybe I am complete stupid or my glider doesn't work properly. I started on a high point. Then I glide about 100 meters or so and then I crash somewhere.
I press SPACE but I cannot gain height. I press Q but nothing happens. After a few seconds I always am back on the ground. I also pressed F but this changes nothing.

I already played the old version 0.8 and I had no problems at all.
What am I doing wrong? Or is this a bug?

It sounds like you need a glider-launcher to take flight, if stop on the ground, I do not think you can take flight again until you hit another glider-launcher, if my info is wrong the I apologize for false info

That's how they're supposed to work, you can't gain height once you get going they only take you limited distances. The steel glider gives you a boost when you launch but after that boost it's the same.

I don't know the exact numbers but how it works is when you launch from a tower of height h then you'll glide h * n blocks where is an unknown constant. With a steel glider you essentially get extra height at the start so you glide (h + s) * n where s is another unknown constant representing the boost you get from the steel glider, n more specifically is the number of blocks you can glide for each block of height started from, someone knows the number but I'm not sure what it is.

If you watch Krydax on you-tube, episode 12, then he demonstrates how they nerfed gliders.. basically a 1in 10 descent so if you start 100 blocks up you can glide 1000 blocks.. basically makes them worthless
