I mean its probably more fun rn but better ehhh
Im not a huge fan of Minecraft and watched&played Colony Survival only 3 hours at friend's house, so my opinion could be flawed but thats what we have right now:
1) MC and CS have similar types of materials and ores - wood dirt, stone sand... In MC you can use'em to produce lots of stuff, in CS you can use each resource for 2-3 things only - wood for just planks and buckets, stone for a weird 1/4 stairs and pebbles ammo, ores cant be placed after being excavated and useful only for a small quantity of items like copper parts --> copper tools (no melee weapons exist as far as I can tell).
2) Similar enemies...actually just 1 enemy, which is a zombie with different strength (oof!)
3) Water and gravity works pretty much same way, just a bit smoother due to better engine
4) Without melee weapons its harder to fight off zombies but building things much easier - you dont need any tools (only for AI goons), all block being removed with same fast speed and range much bigger for this
5) Overall graphics besides textures itself (looks almost same comparing to MCs defaults) feels much better - AF, lights and shadows, all fancy DX11 stuff done much better than in MC both on min and max. Textures can be much better with proper texture packs in MC but lights and shadows will still sucks, so its solid 50/50 here.
6) Biggest part - AI and automatisation. AI works quite well as 'robots' moving from their beds to their working area both in small and big colonies. Small problems with storaging (bots ignoring Z axis and can move far away from closest chest because of that, so flat colonies recommended) and literally zero self defence as *non-golem* villagers from MC. Sadly thats all and I can tell that even without mods majority of their duties can be automated in MC just with red stone blocks (antizombie turrets, waterfall-vegetables 'farms', river and minecart portable storage...).
I played CS almost 2 hours straight on new and already built colonies and can definitely tell that after some moment this game stop being exiting and become way to repetitive - you unlocked everything, rebuilt colony for a perfection - thats it Game Over, You are The Winner...
If this game already had 66-75% discount, Id say - go and buy it ASAP because CS done much better than 'Stonehearth' or 'Towns' (which are now abandonware games). But with current price tag I honestly dont think its worth it. 'Rimworld' and 'First Feudal' having similar style but providing much and much better gameplay and repeatability.
And if you are looking for a fun 'colony survival' game with a Minecraft style, better go and try now free to play (fully freeware on Steam) 'PLANET EXPLORERS'. This is not an advertising of any kind, I just honestly think that PE done better than CS in terms of voxel-based survival/building game with a fully buildable autonomus colony with 'alive' bots, which can both harvest food/work at workstations as colony members and follow player RPG style as companions, helping to defeat foes.
So once again - if you are owning MC and you are fine with redstone system and poor mod optimisation, better stick to it, since MC provides better diversity in materials/tools/items
Differences.
1.All your tools and advances construction materials and workstations are built (not including the origonal science station and workbench) are made by colonists, NOT YOU!
2.Ore is mined from colonists. if you attempt to mine an ore you get it but it destroys the ore block. A colonist can mine that block endlessly without breaking it and collect ore.
3. your primary role is overseer, you can fight but you alone cannot take out more than the smallest of waves. You have to hire guards (optional since you can disable spawns at any time).
CONCLUTION: asteticly it looks alot like minecraft due to its common vocel structured design but its more like minecraft/simcity/Sims all wrapped in one. As of this post theres more avalable in minecraft but lets be honest... Minecraft isnt mincraft anymore its MICROSOFT PRESENTS Minecraft... No Notch, No Soul.
Mm block mean minecraft yes yes
Thus, its pointless to claim that Minecraft pioneered the genre or that 'cubes' are solely Mojang's invention.
Pointless compairing and trying (and failing in) being sarcastic wont make you either cool or correct.
1) I answered to Auzzie's post, since he/she claiming that CS only popular because Minecraft promoted genre, which is not true.
2) Games like Rising World, Trove or Portal Knights are actual 99% rip-offs of Minecraft, since they providing same gameplay, items, features and patterns. This is as well actual for Colony Survival, having almost same tools, materials and way to work with whole world.
3) Games like Space Engineers or 7 Days to Die are not Minecraft rip-offs since they are clones, just like Godfather or Total overdose are clones of GTA series or Grey Goo and 8-Bit Armies are clones of Command and Conquer.
4) Lego series cant be a rip-off at all, since first games with usable items, vehicles and partial buildings were 'Lego Island' games, which as well as 'Lego Rock Raiders', were released in 1996-1999. Minecraft start providing such features only at 2010 and its unknown if InfiMiner, which according to Noth himself 'inspired' Minecraft, copied Lego features.
