Where minecraft is a first person exploration/survival sandbox (And yes I play with many mods in minecraft). Colony Survival is more like a first person tower defense town builder. Things are a lot more focused on resource balancing, there is tech to be researched, and constant enemies assaulting you. They look similar, but that's pretty much where the similarities end.
i hate to be this guy but there are a lot mods in minecraft who do that , there is entire mod called "rats" who does just that , but colonists are rats and can do almost virtualy anything and automate anything for you.
there are atleast 3 more i know of but dont remember exact names
It's also one of those games that I would classify as "It is what you make it"
You could probably run through it in a day or two if you were grinding really hard, but you could play for quite a while if you chill out and build some cool stuff and design a good colony.
dont know if someone answered you or not but the mods would be
milliner, ancient warfare, minecolonies and tekitpoka
those mods in the craft lets you build and antomated colony after a good number of estabishment has been done
