Water....I need a bucket!
Just a suggestion. I would like to be able to actually gather water up and make a moat around my castle, however, I dont want to have to dig to china to do it....

Would be cool, if we could get a bucket, or something to be able to haul water. I want water around muh castle, however, I dont like that its like 3 blocks down. The estetics doesnt look so good, imo. I would like to dig a 2 block deep trench and then pour water that will auto fill in....

Or does anyone know of a way to do it without having to dig a trench from a lake to the desired location and raise the water level to either flush with ground or at desired level?

problem is, being able to plonk down a water source anywhere means that a griefer could just build a high tower and place the water block on top of that. due to the nature of water physics in this game, if would just spread endlessly until either the whole map is flooded or the server crashes.

maybe adding it just in SP, or adding protection areas for server admins to place down, or make it that it couldnt get placed higher than the nearest banner.. I don't know really but I would like it aswell however the griefers are indeed a huge downsight on this..

Maybe a collective banlist for multiple server? so that griefer would get temp banned from every server that would join that banlist (they can choose to join the banlist or not) this idea works on another game called Squad aswell and so far it works good over there

Press the "t" key, type "/cheats on" (without quotes), then press "t" again, type "/loot water 1" to give yourself a block of water.

DISCLAIMER: Water works really weird in the game at the moment. It does not have gravity and expands forever. If you place it on top of a block, it will keep spreading forever. Make SURE you place the water in a completely closed-in area. (Above the water does not need to be closed)

I also recommend backing up your save game that is located in the game files.

You can enable cheats by hitting t to open the chat then typing /cheats on. Then you enter /loot water to give yourself a block of water. BE VERY CAREFUL WITH IT! It doesn't act like water, it acts like grey goo, it spreads forever. It can be contained in a moat/pond whatever, just don't put it any higher than you need to. No fountains or waterfalls. I suggest making a quick test map to see how "fun" water is in this game.

Basically, before we implement a bucket, we'll have to make some properly spreading water. Which is not really a priority at the moment, and quite a complex issue.

Having water buckets now will mess up savegames for a LOT of people, who innocently put it somewhere that isn't a hole.

Do you have data for each block like in Minecraft?
If you do, just have some set measurements of water, full, 3/4, half, quarter.
Each block only spreads the next type, so Full only spreads out as 3/4 water.
This automatically limits the spread to a radius of 4 blocks.

For gravity, just drop the block down *first* then do the spread, this guarantees only spreading for grounded blocks.

If you don't have block data, 4 separate water blocks of different amounts fixes the problem too.

This would be super easy to program (you already have the spread, just change the block being spawned and check the block below for gravity)

Lol, I love being a game dev, really opens your eyes as to what needs to be done :D

But you'd still want to be able to fill a moat easily, without transplanting a lake into being... Not really a lake anymore

In MC you can have a 2x2 area that gives you all the water you need..
But yea we want our moats. I really need to post pictures of my water maze for the front door.
