Splitting Stump missing/broken?

Hi, I'm a new player.

I encountered a problem with the splitting stump.

-It does not show up in my crafting menu even though I have copious amounts of "Log Taiga/Temperate" and "Bronze Axe"

-It does not show up in the crafting list for my crafter at the workbench.

-I despaired and turned on cheats to give myself some splitting stumps and was successful but once I placed them down my colonists just stand in front of them with the green tick-mark above their heads creating nothing at all and even a click on the stump just reveals an empty window where I cannot click on anything.

Is this a bug or am I stupid? I searched the forums/wikies for some prerequisites for the stump but couldn't find any.

You have to research it on the science table first

Thank you for the answer that was indeed it.
It didn't even occur to me that it was something that needs to be researched because...it is a stump...
