so you gotta be about 30-50% guards if you enabled spawning during the day and double the monsters
if you're having trouble with just the normal monsters at night (not double or daytime) then you gotta add some walls around your colony if you haven't already!
As a side note though, I do wish there was another difficulty mode, where the zombis would spawn, but they wouldn't attack. They would just err around your safe radius, blindly, until you get in their radius, at which point they try and get you.
That would be incredibly easy to deal with but still give you something to shoot at. If anything it would help for when you travel alone, away from your flag, and zombis don't even bother you. There you could have them spawn at night on a 300 blocks radius...
Double/daylight zombis only mean guards and production, so it only slows down everything, but it's not really harder otherwise.
