How deep do I need to go for Iron?

So I've found Galena, Copper, Tin, Coal and Clay but I cannot find iron to save my life and I've been digging really deep trying to find it with no luck. Any suggestions?

Iron is the second ore layer. If you're gotten to Galena, you've gone past both Iron and Gold layers.

The layers spawn like this (as of the current patch 0.4.0)

1x Grass
4xDirt
6-8x Stone (i forget how many layers exactly)
2x Copper/Tin
5x Dark Stone
2x Iton/Clay/Gypsum
5x Dark Stone
2x Gold/Coal
5x Dark Stone
2x Saltpeter/Galena
Dark Stone to Bedrock

Galena will give you Lead and Silver from the same ore block. Silver has a lower chance to drop as a secondary ore.

Yeah turns out I was just getting unlucky lol, but thanks! I completely forgot about gold!
