What if we got an Undo Save function
Yeah so I just revisited and accidentally overrwrote a file that had a good thirty hours of work on it :steamhappy::steamhappy::steamhappy::steamhappy::steamhappy::steamhappy: I do this too often out of good habit

Autosave - incremental with 7 Save Versions on a 30 minute timer works well for me.

My situation has an unfortunate condition where I revisited an Older file and overwrote it before it could pump out an autosave-- and there's no previous autosaves it had in the cache since they were other more recent files' autosaves

The reason is because I was planning on scrounging up an asset file out of it, so I deleted all other items quickly and meant to Save As in the asset directory

But... Ended up where I am now due to a single keystroke :visiblepain:

Yup, I totally know your pain from experience, where I opened an old file I had completed, made a couple of experimental changes, accidentally saved the file instead of creating a new one and completely destroyed the original finished blend file.

Now with the autosave on, I can go back to at least one level before the final save (As long as I don't have the file open before the 7 levels loop (3 1/2 hours).

You can set the number of saves to keep in the directory, it will create <nameOfFile>.blend# with # being 1, 2, 3, etc. as backups of your older files.

Or you could just go pro and use a real backup solution. For example the awesome Duplicati, which is free open source software and works like a charm. ^^

The Blender autosave is nice but nothing beats a real backup solution with a smart backup retention if you want to store your projects safely. So in case of an accidential override of a file you can just extract the old blend file again from the backup.

You can find it here if you're interested: www.duplicati.com
