Cycles crashing constantly now
Hello, since the update whenever I use Cycles it crashes constantly.

On the prev version I had no crashing in months of use but now it has crashed 5+ times today.

I'm wondering if there is a setting I can change that will help reduce this, thanks.

Yes, updated.
What kind of GPU are you using and which renderer? Cycles X using Cuda, Optix or the AMD thing? Does it happen during previewing in rendered mode or when rendering to image?
It seems to only happen when cycles is rendering.

If I close the window before it's done and move the mouse to click anything else it automatically closes Blender.

In normal operations in everything else seems to work fine.

On Nvida using default settings. (set to GPU) 1080.

Had this behaviour happening often on my RTX 2070 when I had the Optix denoiser enabled, especially the viewport preview in cycles was crashing constantly. I disabled denoising in the preview and switched to OpenImage denoiser for the final beauty shots and Blender stopped crashing.

Give it a try, thanks.
I'm on a 2070 too using Optix, but haven't seen an increase in crashes..however I got this one rule: Hit CTRL-S to save, very often! Somehow I get random crashes more often when I forgot to save for a longer period of time since 2.9x..i suspect the autosave feature.
It might be superstition but frequent saves alleviated alot of the inexplicable, random crashes.

Sadly have it all the time with Optix. I enable the render preview and it works but as soon as I change something and the viewport refreshes it crashed without an error message straight to the desktop.

I guess your drivers are up to date. I'm using the NVidia Studio Drivers instead of the Game Ready ones since they claim to have better legacy support.

Yes, my drivers are up to date. Sometimes I play a game or two so I use the Game Ready drivers. Maybe it's related to that but no worries, I just use the OpenImage denoiser which I find a bit better anyway because in my tests it preserved some of the finer details better than Optix when going for a lower sample count. For the preview window I just disable the denoiser. I can live with that. ^^

I'll give it another try with Blender 3.0, maybe it works better in my case with that version.
Noticed now it's crashing when the rendering is done but i'm just clicking "save".
Another crash, lit 30 seconds later.

Is it just me or is 3.0 very unstable compared to the last version? Had no crashes before. Kept my settings at default.

Edit - Seems a restart and deleting user pref seems to have helped.

Might be a problem around it then Blender itself.

Seems to be something to do with CUDA.

Edit - Nope

Yea, no idea what is going on here. Last version worked like butter. This has been a crashthon.

Unrelated - When I go to fly mod now instead of FPS type controls it's now like a dragging movement with momentum that is constant.

Is there a way to revert back to the old FPS style controls with mouse-look prior?

I'm getting crashes with Cycles as well. Thank goodness for autosave. :blockmongler:
Yes, everything works fine. The problem seems to purely be Cycles on this end.

Tried default settings, changing the drivers with a fresh install, changing the rendering options fro GPU to CPU and var others but it keeps crashing.

Also app if anyone could help out here, prefer the old FPS style camera, not sure how to get it back to what it was, thanks.
