Man, this game is bad on Steam Deck.
I first started playing BB on my laptop years ago and loved it to bits, so much so that when I was forced to buy a Switch by my kids so we could play co-op games, I picked up BB on it not knowing what to expect.
I read that they handed the Switch port off to another team and they did an amazing job with the control layout. So much so, I ended up playing it exclusively on Switch tucked up in bed.
I then got a Deck and it was just awful to play BB on. Cumbersome and fiddly as hell. I tried different layouts and keybindings but to no avail.
I guess it's way too late - and costly - to get the Switch team to get their hands on it and make it way easier to play on Deck, but hey, there's no harm in asking.
I'll even bung you £20 to get it going.

Yeah, probably won't happen but who knows! Here's hoping it gets some love some day.

I'm moving this to Suggestions. As JCSato said I don't think it will happen with the devs focusing on MENACE now, but it would definitely be great!
i would enjoy this on steam deck if they optimized it.
I played this on steam deck, it works pretty well
you just need to custom map all the keys.

only 2 things I cant get around is the mission quest on the upper right is huge.
and scrolling when shopping needs me to click on the bar and drag it.

everything else works great once you get a key map you like.
I mostly just use a pc, but the first layout I downloaded for it was actually fine. I had an issue with it at first as there was no way to repair items, or so I thought, but actually Alt key was bound to one of the four buttons on the backside. Pretty smooth experience once you get used to it.
I will maybe try it again with a downloaded layout, but tbh, after how bad it felt last time I played - especially in battle - I'll have to ponder on installing it.
Thanks for the responses, though.

Understandable, I felt the same way at first and had it in my mind as written off for a long time. I don't even remember why I gave it another shot, but I am glad that I did.
Oh well this is very good to know.
I was actually planning to buy the Deck to play BB on it but I guess I ll look for some other peripheral.
Is there any tweaking needed on Switch or it just works out of the box?

The Switch version was sourced out to a different team and trust me when I say they did amazing job. It is so smooth and feels right.
On the Deck, you really need to find a good community layout or faff to make your own as PC BB was just not made with controllers in mind.
Switch version 100%.

Although I have gotten used to and am happy with my Steam Deck controls for BB, I also wouldn't buy the Deck for BB specifically. The initial experience really is not good. Switch would indeed be a better choice in that case.

That said, if you are interested in mods, QoL or otherwise, those will work just fine on Deck and will probably never be available for Switch.
