The main problem is that the damage is poor compared to other 2handers. Even Berserk Chain loses to Flanged Mace while also costing a billion more fatigue to hold and swing. And against unshielded enemies (the more dangerous enemies) it is just weaker than other 2handers in exchange for unreliable stuns and extra headshot chance.
I used to like Chain as a means of converting my early game Flail bros who survived into semi-competent late game units, even brought one to Monolith in B/E and he was great, but with the death of QH and entry of Barbarians that conversion strategy is a lot less reasonable. A bro weak enough to want Flail Spec can't handle late game anymore.
In prior meta where Ancient Dead were the biggest threat, a Chain bro could get some mileage. But now that Barbs are the biggest threat and Flail is junk against them I just don't ever spec Flail anymore unless it is a bro not designated for late game anyway, and such a bro won't be 2handing.
I wouldn't say that it is useless or has no role, just that I can't justify a team slot for it anymore. QH and Flails were both a great way to make a mediocre unit viable in late game. Now I'll just look for a better recruit instead.
I think his main point was to ignore the shields def, but this is also not very important because main tactic fo the Ancient Undead is the "1 step back strategy".
Yeah, maybe devs should look into it. Walking into melee without shieldwall to be demolished in 2 consequent turns makes Ancient Undead very easy.
