Stealing the Greatsword Event
There is an event where you can steal a Greatsword out of a dead man's hand while grieving onlookers look at you with disgust. My heart goes out to the poor, sad, mourners.....

I steal it everytime....

So far, outside of ignoring the cries of the widow, I have not come across any risk for obtaining this rather expensive weapon...If there is none, here is a possibility.

You pry the weapon out of the man's vice-like grip, when from out of the crowd appear a band of weathered men. They are adorned with rusted armor bearing the sigil of a House which has faded into history. The apparant leader of the group slowly unsheaths his weapon.

"You will not dishonor our Brother you f**kin' c*nt!"

You fight 6 Retired Soldiers

That is a rather meager risk for gaining a quality weapon. No one will be concerned about that when they take it, because you will recoup the rep loss rather quickly. On the other hand, if there is a chance for a tough fight, then more thought would be put into the decision...

i guess the point of such events is to gain items by losing some of your reputation. i think it would be wrong to punish players for this.
there is already quests like it, like that cargo quest where its turns out you transporting necrosavants - and it next to impossible to win that fight

i agree

We can agree to disagree I guess because I look at this as a replayability issue as well. It gets kind of old fast to just be on auto pilot for some of these events. However, if you do not want the challenge of fighting the Retired Soldiers, you can always choose an option where you profusely apologize and put the weapon back....If they want to give us a freebie Greatsword then fine, write it as a Discovery event. The dog is digging it up, or your merc trips over it in high grass...but when there is an event with potential conflict like the funeral event, then there should be more to it....

You can put anyone you want. Remember you will not have a tactical battle, just some text which will list all the injuries you received from whoever was po'd enough at you. Just another event like the kids trying to steal from you, the traveling sideshow, and the other events that have negative and positive outcomes.

I mentioned this many times, but every text event needs some type of consequence otherwise it is an annoying waste of time ....

Not all random event battles have to be text only. There are plenty that aren't, since they assume the enemy isn't a pushover. (Thief arrest, transporting necrosavants in a caravan escort, bounty hunters...)
