This is what I did and after that it worked again:
Rimworld was updated to A17 that day. When I launched it after the update, it only showed me a pink screen.
So I basically followed this advise
https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?PHPSESSID=dd0f69cb2c956df0a04d9b156b467487&topic=28712.msg290843#msg290843
and deleted both folders in the Ludeon Studios folder.
Now Rimworld worked again.
After starting my PC the following day, Battle Brothers launched again like it used to.
Now, chances are high that there is no connection, but it may be worth a try nonetheless.
... thinking about it, you may have more in common with Red_Iron,
http://steamcommunity.com/app/365360/discussions/1/1327844097132102853/ ,
who also reported that no log file was created, since it was still created normally for me.
I don't know if that is true, but could it be possible that the game does not properly launch, because it is not able to create the log file?
Starting the game with Admin rights could be worth a try.

It does sound more like the issue Red_Iron had, altough I did try and reinstall steam, as he did.
Have a look at that thread, maybe it will point you to a solution.
Furthermore, you can check this thread,

irrKlang.dll and steam_api.dll are both in the win32 folder for the game. msvcp100.dll (mscvp140.dll in my case) is there. msvcr100.dll is not, although the game is verified successfully.
The weird thing is that when I bought the game, it worked fine that one night. The next day it would not launch. I did not change anything between these two days.
