Since you have updated your video drivers, but still can only play the "old_version". How did you update them, have you done it manually or have you used some update function of some software?

You may want to check what driver date your DxDiag states.
Two more things you can try:

"Screen 'RootScreen' successfully registered."
Old version works, demo does not either, does the same thing, didn't bother to try the Beta as it doesn't look like that'd change much.
Drivers are as up to date as an AMD Radeon HD 5450 can be (AMD doesn't support HD 5xxx series anymore)
Tried to installing/uninstalling C++ Redistributions until I matched my fiancee's list of em, as it works on her laptop (also running Windows 7, and OpenGL is 4.1 with her graphics driver)
Looked up what was used to make the game, programmed in Squirral, using Awesomium? Is there a library for awesomium? No idea what that is, or what it's for... HTML for display, something there I might need to update?
Any ideas would be nice...
That'll make this much more likely to get fixed than necroing old posts like this.
