Honestly I prefer they focus on bugfixes and sticking to their plans for content first and foremost. (ie; new weapons, non-combatant companions, gameplay balancing, etc)

This is Patrick writing, one half of the team that is producing the soundtrack for Battle Brothers. There are some great suggestions in this thread, I especially enjoyed the more authentic medieval music. I just wanted to chime in and comment on the reasoning behind our musical approach.
Generally we want every faction to have its own sonic footprint that makes them clearly recognisable and fits their place in Battle Brothers' lore and game design. For example the Orc battle tracks predominantly use large timpany and taikos, ethnic percussion and brass sections while the Undead titles do not feature any brass at all but heavily build on low strings like celli and basses and very tightly played snaredrum arrangements.
The settlements that belong to the human faction feature guitar and lute instruments. We refrained from the bagpipes and tambourine approach because we did not want every town in battle brothers to sound like the townsfolk are having a medieval fair 24/7. Rather we tried to evoke a sense of peace in the smaller settlements to create a strong counterpoint to the harsh and dangerous environment on the battlefield.
This has proven itself to be a very difficult balancing act. We tried to still feature some memorable melody lines and more outstanding sections in the pieces for the soundtrack but our furthermost goal was to create music that you could listen to for many hours without it getting in the way of the strategic and tactical gameplay. We are currently working on more tracks and will definitely keep your feedback in mind. Next up is the signature music for the bandit faction and we already made a piece for the beast faction, in particular the werwolves (they are f'ing people up left and right so we felt they deserved their own theme :D ). At the moment the musical variety in the game suffers from the fact that both when fighting against the bandits and the werwolves you are listening to one longer and thematically rather unspecific track that we first made for the Battle Brothers demo one year ago.
I never played Battle for Westnoth but it gets mentioned a lot in comparison to Battle Brothers. I should definitely give it a go!
Thanks everybody for the feedback! As far as the OP better music to listen to goes, my suggestion would be anything from the Witcher series (I am loving the slavic and eastern influences and think they suite BBs quite nicely).
It's REALLY impressive for a free game. You should.
Here's some songs of theirs, by the way, courtesy of YouTube:

Might want to visit the URL itself to see them all. Not sure if you can hear the majority of their songs through Steam's overlay.
Cool, thx! I can definitely hear the similarities. The Westnoth music shares the more sombre and dark atmosphere that we are aiming for. Plus it is an orchestral style that's not "over the top"-epic which I strongly appreciate. Will listen a bit more (unfortunately the youtube quality is rather bad) and give the game a try.
This first track I think has some elements that may be desirable when fighting certain monster factions. I think you'll hear why. Like Battle Brothers' music, it's unintrusive.

This next track has a good guitar and basic drum beat for traveling. Also unintrusive. Obviously the other instruments don't work as well due to being chosen for Mesoamerican adventures - but those simple guitar riffs...

And another battle song; again, focus on the elements that wouldn't work in a Germany-based world.

This last battle song stands out because it works well in situations where you're vastly outnumbered, outmatched, and outclassed. It's slow, heavy, and not frantic, but it has this feeling of uncertainty. Might be good inspiration.

The first track features a lot of electronic and sequenced synthi elements which would not suite BB in my opinion, though the music is good. My favourites would be the last three tracks you posted, epecially the travelling song and the slow and heavy orchestral piece.
Cheers!
Everything is still work in progress of course :)
